Sweet dreams

I emerged from my warp at the door to my fortress embedded into a mountain in Phoenix, Arizona. Having complete control of my nanites let me destroy and make just about anything, so I made my fortress. The only way in was one of two ways, go in through a series of security clearances and blast doors or for some people with similar abilities, warp to the front door.

I walked into the living room with the giant plasma TV, fully articulated game room, and the supped up wet bar. I crashed on the giant sofa in front of the TV and started to sleep.

"Taking a nap," said the voice of the bane of my existence

I was in a vast dark space flouting in the infinite void "I was trying to before you decided to pull into the dream space" I said. The dream space was more or less what it sounds like, a sort of communication space inside all of the Half-Walking's head that the manager can speak to us with. That's where I was now "what do you want"

"I can't say hi, Jace," the manager said

"You never just say hi, though, that's the problem," I told him "would you show your self, I hate talking to space."

"Sure thing" he said, just then in front of me appeared a sort of clown looking man, with colorful clothes and a smile so big it was creepy. He seemed to be laying down on his side with his hand on his head, which was weird because there was nothing but space below him "How are you doing, my son?"

"I am not your son," I said

"ah, but I made you what you are, so, therefore, I must be your father," he said

"a man like you would never be my father," I said

"oh well, so it must be" he said with a shrug, he then 'shoved off' and started to swim through the void "good job with that contract, today! The way you sent that spike through the kid and how you crushed the old man with his car by manipulating the nanites was pure genius."

"what do you want," I asked, followed his swim through space with my eyes

"I can't congratulate you on a job well done," he asked

"No," I said, plain and simple

"ugh, fine, a man can't have fun," he said as he flipped back over from his swim and looked at me "I have another job for you, but I need to get more details before I give it to you"

"OK," I said, we sat in silence for a moment before I thought about the Huntress "did you hear that the Huntress is trying to make a team with all of us?"

"I did, and what do you say to that," the manager asked

"It seems pointless, but who knows what her motives are," I said

"I would advise against trying to do anything against me, you remember what happened to the shapeshifter" he said. The shapeshifter was a fellow Half-Walking, but he suffered a terrible fate. The shapeshifter started to question the authority of the Manager, he started to get defiant and in response, the Manager took quick action, He forced the nanites in the shapeshifter to kill him from the inside out. Destroyed, nothing left, just... gone and I witnessed the whole thing.

The shapeshifter ran into me and we started talking when all of a sudden nanites burst from his stomach and crawl all around his body. I watched as his eyes rolled into the back of his head and he started to fall, the nanites were done before he even hit the floor. They ran off and I was too stunned from what just happened to think to follow them.

"Yes, I do," I said

"good, let us not let that happen to you, OK? I'll talk to you later goodbye, Jace. Sweet dreams" He said with a little wave

I awoke with a start.
