alex's eyes slowly opened, only to be blinded by the tile of light above him. he quickly covered his eyes to avoid it before he heard a sudden movement from across the room. "h-hey, alex..." george mumbled as he averted eye contact with the other male. luckily for him the other male couldn't even look at george without a beam of light stopping him. "...hi, george..." alex muttered back awkwardly. he felt a strong urge to just get up and run, disappear almost, but he resisted it and balanced his hand on the bridge of his nose. "your uh, mate called james texted you a few minutes ago..." alex pushed his body up despite his aching body begging him not to. "what did he say?" alex asked, worried. what would james' reaction be to his friend who he just met beating him up?

"he just asked when you were coming back..." george scratched the back of his neck awkwardly. he felt terrible for what he did, he was always known for having anger issues amongst his friend group but it never got this far. i guess the teasing of him being gay made him feel angry, but then he reached his limit when he thought alex lied to him. george was always sensitive about the topic of his sexuality, he was what he admitted to himself as hetero-flexible but his mates were pricks so he didn't know whether they'd accept him or not. it didn't seem like something they would do since they were still of course human and had a good mindset of equality for everyone but there was always the lingering feeling of self hatred towards himself. it was just another reason that he should just kill himself as soon as possible, to him it wasn't normal. george didn't realise how much he needed alex to tell him that his feelings were valid and that he would always be there for him when he needed it. but of course, that wasn't going to happen soon, he had just put alex in hospital.

"are you okay?" george snapped back into reality, noticing the small tear rolling down his cheek. he wiped it off with his hoodie sleeve before looking at alex for a brief moment. bruises. "so...what did you say to james?" he asked awkwardly. "oh, yeah...! i uh, i just asked him who he was and if he wanted to see you..." the whole time george tried to keep himself distracted by small things like the colour pallet of the room so he wouldn't accidentally find himself looking straight at the boy in front of him, staring down at the bruised boy that he ruined the moment he texted him. if george didn't exist, technically the problem would be gone.

alex sighed. "d-does he know why i'm here...?" his question was followed by an uncomfortable silence. george shuffles around slightly, feeling an extreme amount of weight metaphorically squishing him. "...n-no, i kind of avoided t-telling him that so he wouldn't k-kill me..." he choked out. his head was filled with the repeated words 'don't cry, don't cry, don't cry, don't cry'. "fair enough, james is a big lad." alex laughed a forced laugh as an attempt to stop the awakened pauses and troubled glances. george cleared his throat before taking a few step towards alex's bed. "i uh, was thinking of getting some water from the cafe downstairs, want anything?" he asked. alex nodded. "i'll have a water too, please." "o-okay..."
and with that, george shuffled out of the room as alex watched. how did he get into this mess?
