Shake it off, people would say.
if only it were that simple.
If only, if only, the crickets sang.
Lost amongst the trees.
The little girl stands.
Brown hair tousled by the wind as she stands shivering. Skin and feet bare amongst the cold harsh Breeze.
"Mum!"
She screams,
dim light providing little to no hope ahead.
Shake it off
The darkness coons. yearning forward longingly it's seeks to tear the girl apart.
She screams. Reaching furthers into the dark abyss of unforgiving trees and the itchy grass that pricks at her pale white feet. Drips of water putter to the ground ominously, as if signalling the reaper's call. "Mum!" She screams, once more. Pale hand reaching out to grasp at the ghostly white dress.
"Urgh!"
A cry of frustration.
The sound of fabric tearing rips through air.
Elke gasps, chest heaving. As she clasps at the empty fabric. "No.." she shudders.
Dropping to her feet. "No no.."
"Please don't leave me"
She begs, as she curls onto the unforgiving floor.
Mind swirling, vision blurring. Heart roaring.
The trees elongate, their branches twisting into Long, sickening imitation of human fingers. They laugh, shoving her, ripping the girl apart. They mock her. Voice like honey and sharp like the knives on a Butchers wall.
"Are you still upset?"
No.
"It's been years"
Go away
"You have to move on"
NO
"Pitiful child, she'll never learn"
I said stop
"Ah.. she never did learn to shake things of know?"
No
"It's such a shame"
Go away
"How sensitive"
LEAVE ME ALONE
The forest shatters, Elke gasps, hands shaking, chest heaving. She wakes. Eyes open to the abyss. The girl rises. Duvet falling to the floor.
The cold Sun rises slowly but inevitably Peaking over the horizon and glaring through the window.
She breathes.
Shake it off child
The window cracks.
