the next day i skated to school after walking Donny to the bus stop. As i passed Hayden's house i heard screaming. i wonder what that was about. When i got to school i saw Hayden at his locker across from mine. Should i go over an say something? thank him for his help yesterday? no i shouldn't. i closed my locker and walked past him slowly, hoping he'd say something. and he did. "hows the knee?" he said. "oh it's fine, thanks" i said as we walked down the hall together. "Ty!" Mac said as he ran and tackled me from behind almost knocking me over. "dude quit it" i said laughing. "loving the fit today" he said pulling my beanie off and putting it on him. "thanks" i said pulling my beanie back. "she's the edge legend" he said to Hayden. "pretty sick. you've got style Tyler" he said to me. "as do you Hayden" i said. he had baggy ripped jeans on with vans and a sublime tee shirt layered over and hoodie. "not as cool as you though" he said. i smiled and laughed a bit. i felt the wind get knocked outta me for a second time as Denver came up behind me and jumped on my back. "woah you're pretty popular there Tyler" Hayden said. "only the opposite, these two goons are my burdens" i said and they both laughed as well as me. my smile faded as Ethan walked past us. "jerk" Mac said under his breath. "douchebag" Denver added. "quit it guys" i said. "not a fan of that guy i'm guessing?" Hayden asked. "Who the fuck is" Mac said. "that's her ex" Denver whispered and i punched him in the stomach. "hey what was that for" Denver complained. "for being an ass" i said and Mac laughed. i looked up at Hayden. "i gotta go to class" he said "bye dude" the boys said.
-
i skated home like usual but stopped at the mini-mart. When i walked in i saw none other then Hayden. i grabbed my ginger ale and sweet tarts and went up to the counter, hoping Hayden wouldn't notice. "good afternoon Ty" Morgan said rather loud. i looked behind me and Hayden and i made eye contact. "Look who it is, Ms. popular, even the gas station workers know you" he said. "i've known ty her whole life" Morgan said. He checked out my stuff and handed me a bag. "thanks morgan. see ya tomorrow" i said walking out. i sat down on the bench outside and drank my ginger ale. Hayden came out of the store and walked over to me, sitting down with the monster that he bought. "you come here a lot?" he asked. "everyday for the past 10 years" i said. "so you come here everyday for a diet Canada dry and sweet tarts?" he asked. "you know it" i said and he laughed. "sooo Tyler...." he said fishing for my last name, "Moore. Tyler Moore" i said. "So tyler moore. what is there to know about you, besides your addiction to ginger ale and candy?" he asked. "not much to know about me" i said trying not to open up. "oh come on. you seem like a girl with a story to tell" he claimed. "yeah maybe. but not today" i said. "why not? i'm here to talk" he said. "i'm not a big talker" i said. "me neither" he said. "oh yeah? doesn't seem like it" i claimed, "maybe you have have an effect on me".

Hayden's POV:
I know i shouldn't have started talking to her. getting to know her would only end badly. But it was true, she did have an effect on me. I wanted to know everything about her. "how bout you tell me about yourself and you'll inspire me" she suggested. I couldn't tell her about my fucked up life. she'd never want to talk to me again. maybe that would be a good thing. no, i came here for a fresh start, no one needs to know about my family. "so how old is your brother?" i asked. "hey i thought we were talking about you now" she said. "yeah but, you're more interesting. i remember you saying something about a brother at the skate park yesterday" i explained. "Yeah, Donny. he's 7. i do everything for him mostly since my dads away for work a lot" she said. "what about your mom?" i asked. her face completely changed. She looked so sad. "um, my mom, she passed away when i was young" she said quietly. "shit Tyler. i'm so sorry. i didn't mean to bring that up" i said putting my hand on her leg. she looked at my hand and stood up quickly. "no, it's ok, i should go, i don't want Donny to worry" she said grabbing her skate board and starting to skate away. before i could say goodbye she was down the road. Shit, couldn't have fucked that up more. But what was my intention? to start something with her? i couldn't. i couldn't hurt her more then she already is.
-
Tyler's POV:
As the wind brushed against my face i tried not to let tears fall from my eyes. Whenever i think of my mom, i get so drained. My mind goes numb and i can't feel anything. i walked in the house and started cooking dinner for Donny.
-
i finished with dinner and it was dark. i decided to go  out on the porch and sit for a bit. it was spring so it was warm.
-
Hayden's POV:
I skated back home and walked in the door. i went upstairs and tried to ignore the horrendous yelling that filled the house. "can you two shut up already!?" i yelled from my room. i heard stomping up the stairs and before i knew it, my door flew open. "you think you can talk to me like that?" Rick yelled. "i can talk to you however i want" i said. he put up his arm with his hand in a fist and began to swing at me but my mom yelled and stopped him. "don't hit him rick, please" she said. "then you parent your damn son" he said as he stormed out. "mom please get us out of here" i said. "i'm doing what i can" she said walking out in tears. i can't with this family. I took my board and went out skating. it was dark but i didn't care. i needed to get out. as i skated down the road i saw Tyler. she was sitting on the porch of what i'm guessing is her house. i stopped and looked at her, she didn't notice, her head was looking down. "Hey" i said. She picked her head up and locked eyes with me, "hey" she said smiling a bit. i walked up and sat next to her. "i'm sorry about skating off so quick earlier" she said. "hey it's ok. i'm sorry for asking about your mom" i said. "no you couldn't have known. it's ok" she said. i smiled. it was quiet for a minute. "so, why are you out skating at 10pm?" she asked. i hesitated, "um, just getting my mind off things" i said. "what kinda things?" she asked. "i can't y'all about it" i said looking away. "you can with me. i won't tell anyone if that's what you're worried about". "it's not. i just, i don't want to talk about it right now" i said. "that's fine". she stood up. "do you wanna come in?" she asked. "i don't wanna over step" i answered. "no it's fine, Donny's asleep and my dads not home" she said. Wait. us? together? alone? we walked into her house. she took my down a hallway and opened the door to a room at the end. we walked in. it was her bedroom. The walls were grey, she had skate and band posters plastered on every wall. she has a guitar by her bed too. she sat on her bed. i sat next to her. "so. what do you want to do?" i asked. she pulled a box out from under her bed and placed it on her lap. she took the lid off and it was filled with weed and bowls and booze. "you wanna take our minds off things?" she said holding up a joint. "fuck yeah" i said.
-
it was midnight, we were so cross faded. it wasn't my first time smoking, but my first in a while. We put on music and she got up and started dancing. it was the cutest thing i've ever seen. she grabbed my hands and pulled me up, "nooo i don't dance" i said as she twirled me. "neither do i" she said laughing. i grabbed her hand and twirled her into my arms. she looked up at me and we locked eyes as my hands were on her waist.

Tyler's POV:
His bright blue eyes saw right through mine. Our faces were so close. our foreheads were pressed against each other's. "you are so beautiful" he whispered. he slowly brought his lips closer to mine. He placed them gently on mine. i closed my eyes and kissed him back. after a couple seconds we pulled apart. "i should go to bed" i said. "yeah of course, i'll go" he said stumbling to the door. "no Hayden, you're so fucked right now, you're staying here tonight". "no, i'm fine trust me" he said, still stumbling. i grabbed a blanket and put it on the floor with a pillow. "just stay" i said. he agreed and laid on the floor next to my bed. i got in my bed and laid down turning to face him on the floor. my arm hung off the bed, he reached his arm up and intertwined his fingers with mine. he played with the strings hanging from the bracelets on my wrist. "this has been the best night i've had. in such a long time" Hayden said. "me too".
-
i woke up the next morning so hungover. i looked down and saw a guy on my floor. i got so surprised for a second but then i remembered. Hayden opened his eyes and sat up. "goodmorning" he said. "goodmorning". i heard a voice down stairs. it wasn't donny. "did you hear that?" i asked Hayden. "yeah, who is it?" he asked. "Tyler? are you awake?" i heard the voice say as footsteps followed. "shit shit shit. it's my dad" i said. "shit, what do i do?" he asked. "go out the window" i said, he got up quickly and climbed out. "when can i see you next?" he asked. "skate park, 8:00 tonight" i said. he smiled and left. "hey dad!" i said turning around to see him. "why are you home?" i asked. "Can't a dad take a break from work and spend some quality time with his son and daughter?" he said. "well yeah but you haven't been home in over a month" i said. "well now i am" he smiled. something was off about this.
-
after the day went by i was maybe starting to think i was wrong about my dad. Maybe he is back to see us and step up as a father. I was walking down the hall to my room to get ready to go meet hayden when i saw my dad sitting on my bed. "dad? what's up?" i asked. "well, tyler, i wanted to talk to you about something" he said. "what is it?" i asked. "well, you see, i've been meaning to ask you this for awhile but, i've run out of funds and i'm drowning in debt" he said. "well dad i have school all the time, i don't have time for a job" i said. "no honey i know. But you do have that fund account your mom left you. It would only be a temporary, id pay it back when the business picks up" he explained. "so, wait wait, let me get this straight. you, want to dip into my college funds mom left me?" i asked. "only a couple thousand to get me started. after everything i've done for you and your brother. can't you do me this favor?" he asked. "yeah, sure, fine" i said. i got up and grabbed my board. "we okay tyler?" he asked. "yup. perfectly fine" i said walking out. i skated to the park trying not to let my dad get to me. As i skated in i saw Hayden doing kick flip. he noticed me and came over. "hey" he said. "hey" i said back.
-
we skated around for awhile and i tried to keep my mind off my dad. we sat down for a break. "so about last night" he started, "yeahh, it was interesting" i said. "yeah that's one word for it" he laughed. "but i was serious when i said i was one of the best nights i've had in a while"  he said. "me too Hayden" i said smiling. i felt my phone buzz. it was a bank notification. $4,000 was withdrawn from my account. "goddammit" i yelled throwing my phone on the pavement. "woah, hey, what happened?" Hayden asked with a concerned look on his face. "it's my fucking dad. he disappears for 2 months no calls no texts and then randomly shows up. i thought that he changed. but no. he just came for money" i said. "he's using my money for college". "shit Tyler. that's so messed up" he said. "my mom left me that money. i need it" i said. "is there anyway you can block him from the account?" he asked. "no" i said looking down. "hey. it's gonna be okay" Hayden said grabbing my hand. I looked up at him. he put his hand gently on the side of my cheek and pulled my head up. he placed his lips gently on mine and kissed me. we pulled away after a minute but before i could say anything i saw Mac and Denver skating up to us. "what's going on here?" Mac said giving us eyes. "nothing. we're just skating" Hayden said covering. "sure doesn't look like skating to me" Denver said. I got up and gave Denver the look, "you won't chase me ty" he said teasing. but i ran after him so fast, chasing him and laughing.
