Long ago, in the year 1987, there was a humble town named Klick'n'Dale. The people were kind and the streets were peaceful, however, something didn't feel right... Their clothes were dull and grey and their houses looked exactly the same except their doors had different plated numbers. "Hello Eliza, would you like to play with me today?" A young boy asked as he approached his friend who was standing next to a car. "Oh, hello James..." Eliza responded. "I'm afraid I can't play today..." James' smile began to fade and was soon replaced by a frown."Why is that?" James asked. "It's because I'm moving away from here James..." James tilted his head in confusion. "Away? Why are you moving away?" I want you to stay here with me..." Eliza looked up at her house. "I'm afraid I can't do that James... My mother says the house is getting old and she doesn't like old things..." hearing this made James feel sad. "Oh... ok... bye, Eliza..." Both Eliza and James hugged each other until Eliza's Mother came outside. "Come, Eliza, It's time to go." The two friends let go of each other. "Goodbye James...I hope we'll see each other again someday..." Eliza hopped into the car with her mother and drove off. The two looked at each other with sad looks on their faces as they watched each other drift away.

Five Minutes Later

James had asked all of his friends to play, including his own parents, but they all said they were busy or had plans. James eventually sat in an open field, on a wooden log with both hands on his face as he held his head down and sighed. "Why is our town always so boring? Nobody wants to play with me and now I have nothing to do...." James lets out a heavier sigh and closed his eyes. About five seconds later, he hears strange yet happy-sounding music. He checked his surroundings right before hearing a feminine voice behind him. "Poor little boy, you look sad. Such a sweet child shouldn't be sad on such a fun-tastic day!" The strange woman said as James looked up at the woman and took his time to admire her colorful clothes. The woman leaned in closer to James with both of her hands on her knees. "What's your name little one?" James's legs started to shake as he placed his hands on his chest. "J-James... p-please d-don't hurt me!" He said nervously as the vibrant woman giggled and gently patted his head. "Now why would I go and do something so cruel to such a sad little boy? I think I know just the thing to cheer you up!" The woman lifted up her hat and gave James a blue balloon with a yellow smiley face on it. James cautiously grabbed the balloon's string, looked up at the balloon's smile, and slowly his sadness started to disappear and was replaced with his own smile. "Now that's what I like to see! A nice warm smile of today's youth is such a beautiful thing." She gave James a comforting smile back as she puts her hat back on and readjusts it. "You know, I just so happened to notice that your town over there is lacking in both color and fun... Perhaps we could change that." James looked back up at the woman and tilted his head. "How do we do that?" he asked. "Simple, just take the balloon I gave you and show it off to everyone in your cute little town and I promise things will get better from there." James looked at his balloon in question. "Don't you feel happy looking at your new balloon friend?" James nodded his head. "Then your friends will too! Just trust me, James. It'll work." James started to feel nervous but then he looked at the balloon's smile again and started to calm down. "Ok, Miss colorful lady, I'll do it!" The colorful woman smiled and gave James a thumbs up as he took a deep breath, turned around, and walked back into town. As he walked down the street, everyone in his neighborhood caught a glimpse of Jame's balloon which triggered something in them. The kids would run towards James and admire the balloon up close while the adults kept their distance and admired the balloon from afar.

"Hey James, where did you get that thing?" A kid asked as James smiled. "A strange yet colorful woman gave it to me! She gave it to me because I was feeling sad abut now I kinda feel happy as if that I have something that'll last forever!" All the surrounding kids jumped for joy and laughed. "What is it anyway?" another kid asked. "I'm not exactly sure. The woman who gave it to me never told me what it was..." The kids surrounding James looked at it in awe and curiosity until an old man came rushing out of his house and ran towards the kids. "Well bless my stars and garters... that there is a balloon!" the kids and adults looked at the old man weirdly. "Um, mister... What's a balloon?" James asked. "A balloon is like a rubber ball but it can float using a special gas called helium! Objects like this balloon here are meant to bring joy in one's heart. However, there's one thing I don't understand is... '' the old man stroked his beard. "Where on Earth did you did you get this young man?" the old man asked. "A kind woman I met in the open field gave it to me." the old man opened his eyes wide and grabbed Jame's shoulders. "Bring me to this field young man, I must see this for myself!" James gave the man a frightened look but silently agreed. James's parents attempted to protest against this but were ignored as James led the old man and the kids to the open field. This scared the adults but was also curious so they decided to follow the crowd. They eventually reached the open field and there was nothing to be seen. "There's nothing here..." the old man said. "I guess the kind lady left..." James mumbled. "James is a liar! He lied to us! I wanted to see the kind woman!" the groups of kids bellowed causing James's eyes to water. "Leave him alone you brats! He's obviously telling the truth, otherwise, he wouldn't be the only colorful thing in this run down, colorless, god-forsaken dump of a town!" The adults gasped at the old man's behavior while the kids continued to yell at James, causing him to cry. Soon the adults started calling him an undisciplined child. Jame's parents hid within the crowd to prevent themselves from being noticed. James was on his knees crying while the old man tried to ward everyone off but nobody wasn't listening. Eventually, the kids and adults, except for the old man, started leaving. They all come to a stop once they heard carnival music playing out of nowhere. "Where is that music coming from?" the old man said. "Where's everybody going? The fun hasn't even started yet!" a feminine voice echoed across the field. The adults looked around in confusion and clung to their children to protect them. "I could help but notice that we have a few non-believers out there and we can't have that now can we?" The group of people looked around frantically, hoping to find where the voice was coming from. "There's only one way to deal with non-believers..." Everyone except James and the old man started shaking. All of a sudden, stringless balloons came floating down on all of them and a huge colorful tent surrounded by smaller tents along with certain rides. "To deal with a non-believer, you must give them something to believe in!" Multiple jaws were dropped as balloons floated past their faces and carnival music flowed through their ears as the colorful woman James had met walked out with a microphone in her hand. "Hello everyone! Welcome to the Funtime Circus, where hopes and dreams come to life in the form of entertainment!" Everyone looked at the woman and her circus in awe as she approached and crouched down in front of James. "Didn't I tell you it would work?" she giggled while James hugged her with a smile to match his balloon. "Such a sweet boy... Now, who's ready to go to the circus!" she shouted. All of the children ran into the circus and the adults ran after them to prevent them from hurting themselves. The old man and James watched this and laughed. "Come on kid, let's go have some fun before they take it all!" The old man walked through the entrance while James stood there trembling. "There's no need to be afraid little one." she extended her hand towards James. "I can walk in with you if you want," she said with a gentle and calming voice. James nervously grabbed her hand and walked through the entrance. With each step, James's eyes opened wider as he took the time to adjust to the colorful circus lights. "Welcome to the Funtime Circus James, I hope this place will wash all your worries away!"James rubbed his eyes as he admired the tents they were walking past. "How about I give you a tour?" she suggested. James nodded his head. "Then hold my hand tight James so you don't get lost ok?" James gripped onto her hand slightly tighter as they both smile and explore the wonders of the Funtime Circus.
