It all started like almost-all-cliche-love-stories that aren't quite. This one is a bit different, unlike any other.

Akane Aoi (5)
Aoi Akane (5)

Both lived almost next to each other their whole lives. With parents as close friends, they hardly ever separate during childhood.

Akane-chan had known her since the day their parents introduced themselves. He's always been observant of his little friend. Granted, it was a girl, and it's only proper for a raised gentleman like Akane-chan to treat girls nicely.

"Ohayo! Aoi-chan, right?" the redhead asked, tapping the shoulder of his new friend.

And at that moment, he knew he fell head over heels for this girl. Such beautiful yet deep purple eyes, irises that resembled an empty void someone could get lost in, such delicate and fair skin and violet hair tied in pigtails.

She nodded.

"O-Ohayo..." She mumbled quietly under her breath.

'She might be a bit shy. I should leave her alone.

"...oi" She muttered, this time, loud enough for the redhead to hear. He turned around and saw this smile, so genuine, so pure.

"Ehe... excuse me?" He chuckled softly.

"Aoi. My name is Akane Aoi." She finally spoke, breaking the boundary of silence between the two.

Akane-chan's eyes widened. He could not believe his ears.

"Oh! What a coincidence..."

She cocked her head with a puzzled face.

"How so?" She asked.

"Hajimemashite! I'm Aoi Akane." I beamed. She had the exact expression I had back when I mentioned it.

She chuckled.

'That laugh... almost sounds fake. As if mimicking such a perfect voice.'

Akane-chan's flustered face was already pretty obvious yet Aoi-chan still acts oblivious towards him.

"Akane-kun, thank you."

The little redhead boy didn't exactly know what she's thankful for but instead, let out a generous grin.

"It's nice to have a friend." She continued, before looking away from her new friend and go on daydreaming again.

'She wanted a friend. That's why.'

---

"A-Ao-chan! I'd like to make a promise with you, if you-"

She cut him off, knowing exactly what he wanted to say. It was like fate?

"Of course I don't mind. Every friend has promises of their own, don't they?" She smiled, taking Akane-chan's hand and holding it tight.

The flustered redhead was stunned. Ao-chan's peppy and now confident personality shone through.

"Ao-chan... I promise that I'll always stay by your side no matter what happens!" He blurted. Akane-chan looked up to meet Ao-chan's purple eyes.

They were truly beautiful.

Aoi returned his smile, still holding onto his hand.

"Thank you, Akane-kun! As for my promise, I'll always support you in every way possible! I swear!" She ended up shouting louder than she thought.

But she didn't care. Nor did Akane-kun. Both of them wanted the world to know of the friendship they shared.

"That's great, Ao-chan!" He chuckled, pulling the violet haired girl closer to an embrace.

"Yokatta!"

Hi! So I just wanna say, I'm not that skilled in writing and all since this is my first time publishing such and I don't really do much but chill during quarantine.

Stay safe! Oh, any thoughts about this? I'm trying to do better with the second chapter and I hope I really do improve.
