Carly arrived home late Thursday evening. I was glad to have her back, the house was too quiet when she was gone. It was too late to cook anything so we ended up ordering in a pizza to share between us. I sat down at the kitchen table, pulling a slice of pizza from the box and taking a bite. Carly sat down beside me, handing me a small glass of cherry cola.
I was too tired to stay up for long so I finished my half of the pizza and headed upstairs. I managed to watch half an episode of Dexter before falling asleep.
My alarm tormented me as I buried my head into my pillow. I've never been a morning person, my mum used to have to physically drag me out of bed on a school morning otherwise there was no way I would be up on time.
I flung myself out of bed, resisting the urge to throw my alarm at the wall. I threw my hair into a high ponytail before slipping on a pair of beige wide-leg trousers and a white long-sleeved top. The faint sound of plates rattling in the kitchen travelled through the house, Carly must be eating breakfast. I made my way downstairs to join her, grabbing a pair of slip-on shoes from the shoe rack by the door.
The sweet smell of pancakes rushed over me as I walked through the doorway. Carly stood by the hob, frying pan in one hand and a spatula in the other.
"Good morning," She announced cheerfully as I walked towards the coffee machine.
"Morning, the pancakes smell lovely!" I replied, my voice still croaky from my slumber.
"There's plenty of mixture if you'd like some?" She asked as she flipped a pancake into the air, watching it sizzle as it landed back in the pan.
"I'm alright, I think I'll just have some toast but thank you," I told her as I grabbed a slice of bread from the side and tossed it into the toaster. Any other day, I'd have said yes to the pancakes in an instant I don't think I can stomach them this morning.
"Are you coming to the gig tonight?" She asked as she plated up her pancakes.
"I'm not sure," I answered, I wanted to go and support Carly and her brothers but at the same time I'd much rather stay home.
"Maddox will be there," She retorted, avoiding eye contact with me but a smirk quickly appeared on her lips. Of course, he'll be there, that's even more of a reason not to go.
"I'm even less likely to come if you say that," I laughed, pushing the thought of him to the back of my mind. I don't want anything to do with someone who lies, especially after I opened up to him about my feelings.
