There's nothing wrong with being gay.
Nothing wrong, Indigo told herself repeatedly, nothing wrong.
But why does everyone think there IS something wrong?
That was what clung onto Indigo's mind as she nervously paced through the streets. Sunset had painted the sky with warm purples and gentle yellows, and blanketed the world around her in a soft light. She was on her way to the local restaurant for her first date with her new girlfriend, Alicia. Of course, she was beyond excited to see Alicia's beautiful hazel eyes and her long, curly chestnut hair, and that smile - oh, that sweet sweet smile - but she was a little worried too.
As soon as Indigo started dating Alicia, word spread like a forest fire. The flames travelled to her friends, and as soon as they felt the heat of the word against their ears, they abandoned her like an unwanted animal. Whenever she tries to approach them, they walk past her as if she were see-through, no words spoken, no looks taken. They just couldn't accept who Indigo was and who she loved, which is just wrong. It feels so wrong.
There's nothing wrong with being gay. Nothing wrong, nothing wrong.
Those were the words that Alicia told Indigo after she informed her of the reaction of her 'friends'. And now, on the way to the restaurant, Indigo repeated those words with Alicia's gentle, graceful voice. Nothing wrong, every second would say, nothing wrong.-
At the restaurant, Indigo was already at the table, waiting for Alicia, staring at the candle that stood in the center, watching the little flame twitch to and fro. The words have already faded for the time being, and now her mind lay peaceful like a small, serene pond, leaves drifting gently on the surface. Her eyes were so intent on the candle that at first she didn't notice Alicia's arrival, but as soon as her sweet sage scent made its way into Indigo's nose, she instantly looked up and straight into her eyes.
Those eyes.
Indigo felt some kind of dizziness whenever she'd look into those eyes, as if she'd gotten lost in some kind of void. To any other person, they're probably just eyes. But to her, they're little galaxies of emotions, filled with stories from the past, tinged with future possibilities, criss-crossed with love and affection and happiness and success and any other positive emotion that could possibly be hiding inside those hazel multiverses. Just one look held Indigo helplessly hooked like a fish, almost as if Alicia's eyes were blackholes, slowly dragging her into their cosmos.
"What?" Alicia suddenly said, making Indigo jump. She must've been so lost in those eyes that she lost her sense of reality for a moment!
Alicia took her seat and let out a little giggle. Her giggle! It was the CUTEST THING. It was abrupt, high pitched and mixed with a little bit of a squeal, and to Indigo it was adorable as hell. It's probably her favourite noise in the entire world.
Indigo decided she'd take the opportunity to just admire Alicia while she ordered the food. Laying her head down on the table, she dreamily gazed at her girlfriend, whose head was turned upwards to the waiter. She was wearing a white turtleneck, but that just did nothing but make her even more adorable than she already was. Her rounded, sunset-washed glasses were usually covering her eyes, but right now they just sat atop her head, and even though Alicia wasn't looking at Indigo, it felt like the pull of her black-hole eyes was still acting upon her and dragging her into their void. Also, her voice was sweet and just perfect, even when she's taking orders - "and an iced tea for me, and yes, please include the ice cubes" - and Indigo knows there was definitely something special within its chorus.
After the order was taken, Indigo and Alicia had found themselves a lot of time to gaze at one another dreamily (I wonder what she thinks of my eyes; does she feel the same or similar way that I do?), hold hands and flatter each other infinitely.
It peacefully went on like that.
Until one moment.
"Question," Alicia suddenly spoke after a few moments of holding hands. Indigo looked at her excitedly, ideas of what she could be asking sparking in her mind.Indigo tilted her head. "Mhm?" she asked. Now, Alicia's eyes seemed to be a little more unfathomable; the emotions that seemed to cross them were muted.
"So... like... what if I wanted to, uhm... kiss... you...?" she half-muttered, before suddenly but slowly gazing down, nervously brushing her sleeve with her hand.
As soon as those words settled in her mind, Indigo felt a tingling sensation jump around in her blood, and instantly her heartbeat skipped a few beats and her cheeks began to glow. The mixture of surprise and pure joy clung onto her heart for a few seconds, touching her in a way she knew she'd never felt before.
It feels like days have passed when Indigo replies. "That's alright," she declares at last, giving a slight nod to Alicia.
"R-really?" Alicia actually sounded unconfident there. Something tensed inside Indigo; yes, her heart was still racing and her cheeks still warm and her blood still tingling, but something else was tensing inside of her, she knew it, she knew it.
Get yourself togetherrrrrr. "Yeah."
Even with that positive response, Alicia continued to look down, pensive, but Indigo thought she could see hints of red crawling up her cheeks.
Indigo smiled. Or at least, tried to smile. It probably ended up looking really awkward. "It's fine."
Alicia then lifted her head and smiled back, her eyes still unfathomable but certainly more confident than they were just earlier. Then, rather slowly but surely, she placed her hand on Indigo's cheek and leaned in until she was almost touching noses. Indigo felt the lava in her cheeks begin to boil a little as she looked into Alicia's soft eyes.
Alicia then leaned in a little bit closer and, softer than a feather, she kissed her.
As soon as their lips made contact, time stopped. Indigo felt something rush through her body like some electric charge racing through every little corner of her body and her cheeks warmed up to the heat of the sun and her heart sped to four times its speed and the tingling got so violent she felt like she was going to die from electrocution if Alicia didn't pull away now.
But she did. Alicia carefully pulled away after what felt like forever, but even afterward, Indigo could still feel infinite excitement coursing all through her, her senses tingling and shaking and everything was so warm at a rate that Indigo would consider impossible. She closed her eyes and gave a little squeal, her smile breaking its limits, happiness beyond its usual. She waited for all her senses to ease a little before she looked at Alicia again.
Alicia smiled back at her. "Damnnnn, that really got you? You're redder than a strawberry!"
Indigo chuckled.
"You're also sweeter than a strawberry," Alicia added, nodding her head.
Indigo placed her own hands on her cheeks and looked away dreamily. The tingling had eased to a manageable rate, but her cheeks were still burning hot red like the mouth of a volcano. Indigo suddenly stood up, walked over to Alicia and wrapped her arms around her, burying her face in her soft hair; the incredible smell of sage was strong in her nose. In return, Alicia wrapped her own arms around Indigo and pulled her into a hug, letting her continue nuzzling her hair.
Indigo closed her eyes and sat there with her face in Alicia's shoulder. Now, this is what love feels like. I know it.
