Warnings : Swearing. Virgil's parents.
Virgil's POV
It is the next day, and my parents are still here. I silently greet my father in the kitchen before just walking out of the house, not taking anything with me for breakfast or lunch. I waited by Jerry's car. I'm receiving a car for my birthday this year, so at least I will be able to drive myself then. I actually already have my license because my parents pulled a few strings here and there.
When Jerry drops me off at school, he gives me my lunch. "I thought mother and father don't allow lunch?" Jerry smiles sweetly before saying that he knows. "You need lunch. You can't really eat in the mornings and you need your energy." He told me before driving off.
The school day went away in a blur. Before I knew it, I was in the library again after school. Even Physics and Chemistry was boring, mainly since I sat next to Logan there, and Logan and I aren't exactly buddies. I was just catching up on a few things and trying to finish writing my new song in the library. It wasn't going to great, to be honest. After a bit, Logan sat down next to me again, after asking for permission. I told him that he can sit with me whenever. We didn't really talk, but it wasn't really that awkward. On my side it probably was though. I mean, just look at him. He is the definition of handsome, but unattainable... because of my parents who I know for sure are homophobic.
The week also just whisked away. The only eventful things that happened was me uploading another gameplay video and live-streaming a fundraiser for homeless shelters for twelve hours. Other than that, I finished recording my previous song and uploaded that bitch. I am still working on the other song though. Love songs never were my cup of tea.
Tuesday after school, Logan and I were at our table again. I finished what I wanted to do early, but I didn't want to leave yet, so I grabbed a random poetry book that I haven't read before. It was in French. Yes, I can speak French. When Logan finished his homework, he strolled through the library before grabbing a book and sitting down again. I looked at the title of his book from the corner of my eye. I saw that it was a crime solver. "That's a good book you got there." I told him. "It's a personal favorite of mine. Just stay open minded with it though. A few big twists are in there." Logan then proceeded to look at me like I've got three heads. "You have read this book?" Logan asks. I just stared at him. "Yes? Is there a problem?" Logan's eyes widens before looking away from me. "No, there is not a problem." He says, before looking back at me. "I just did not expect people like-" he stopped mid sentence. "I did not expect anyone to know about this book. It is an old one." I knew what he was going to say, but ignored it. "Yeah, I know. Because of the writer, I've enjoyed the little things in life more, like French. I use to hate taking French, but because the writer frequently has a French character in their books, I've grown more fond of it." Logan lightly smiles at my statement. "They tend to do that, don't they?"
Logan and I geeked out about the author throughout the remainder of our time at the school's library, before we both had to go. I hoped that this was the beginning of a great friendship.
And I was right. Now I purposely go to the library every afternoon to do homework and to speak with Logan. He is also helping me with my Chemistry, since it is my worse subject. In turn, I help him with his French; which he struggles with sometimes as well. Meeting and hanging out with Logan every afternoon was great. It always were the highlight of my day.
One day, during the middle of my school year, my parents called me down to the living room area to talk to me. I sat on the sofa opposite to them. There was a seat open between them. "Virgil. We have some wonderful news for you!" My mother says, smiling widely. "Yes, indeed." My father says, somewhat emotionless. "We met this wonderful married couple last month and we got to know them quite well. They both have very high statuses." My mother nods at my father's words. "And your father proposed a propitiation for them." I didn't like where this was heading.
"Yes, Virgil. This is something wonderful for both of our families' futures. You are now betrothed to their wonderful daughter. So you better break up with that Lee girl. She isn't worth anyone's time anymore." I took in all of my father's words. "You have arranged a marriage, for me, to girl I don't even know?" I ask him, panicking heavily on the inside. "Her name is Lucinda Jean. Wonderful posh girl she is. She also looks stunning, Virgil. I know that you will like her."
"Yes. The wedding is in two years, when she finishes high school herself. So I truly do hope that you get rid of that Lee girl." My father tells me with a demanding glint in his eyes.
"But I don't even know her." I told them, trying to remain cool. My mother looked at me, unimpressed. "Virgil, you don't have a choice. We choose a bride for you. You can at least be appreciative." My father hums in agreement. "You don't have a choice here, Virgil. And remember what happens to boys who step out of line!" My father scolded. I flinched at his tone, slowly nodding my head. "Yes father."
After the conversation with my parents, I walked up to my room feeling numb on the inside. I cried myself to sleep.
