FRIDAY AFTERNOON
FOUR O CLOCK IN THE AFTERNOON

   I write in my journal besides my window. kids my age would be getting ready to go to a party or driving to the mall with friends since it's Friday. i stay home most of the time no one invites me anywhere buys it's okay I guess. My parents are in the living room right now.

   the doorbell rings. who could that be. you place your jornal down and walk downstairs. they ring the doorbell again. you open it.

"why are you here?" you ask him
"it's Friday remember we're going to " mariano stops and sees my parents
"we're going to the library remember"
"huh" you say
"mija onde van" my mom asks
"la voy a llevar a que conozca la biblioteca" he says putting his hands in his pockets
my mom nods
I didn't wanna lie to my mom that's a sin. they would never forgive me but what came out of my mouth was.
"so can we go to the library?"
"si vallan regresan antes de las ocho" she says crossing her arms

I nod and put on my white vans

   when I get in the car I see two people in the back. there was a girl with long brown hair she was really pretty. Besides her was a curly heiress boy that looked Asian. they were holding hands so I guess they were together.

"guys this is Juliette" mariano says pointing at me
his friends look up and widen their eyes giving me a look.
"is she the one?" the girl says eying me
"yeah Juliette meet Valentina"
she flashes me a smile
"and that's samy her boyfriend" mariano points at him

MALL

   we all got out of the car. the mall was bigger than the one in jersey. they start walking in I follow them inside. there was a bunch of teenage girls my age that were pretty it made me insecure.

"well there's a lot of work there needs to be done" valentina says
i smile awkwardly playing with my fingers
"okay samy and mar go somewhere else and leave me and julie alone" she says
did mar tell them about giving me that nickname
"I thought we were going shopping together" you say
"yeah me too" mariano says looking at valentina
"no no I'm going to fix you up" valentina moves her index finger around me
"oh okay" I say softly
"come on this will be fun ahh" she says pulling my arm

   we walk in a store named Hollister. It was kinda dark and smelled like men's cologne. Music was playing in the background.

"this is cute" she says showing me tips that look absolutely inappropriate
"oh where's the rest of it" i reply with my eyebrows furrowed
"all you wear is sweats so try something new"
"I guess I'll give it a try" you shrug

   valentina gives me things to try on. I first try on these shirts that are called tube tops. I liked the colors but a lot of skin was showing. she hands me two dresses. One was red and the other was black. I try on some more things. We go into a couple of more stores. I was uncomfortable because this was all new to me. But maya takes me to the place called ulta. They straighten my hair.
