It was a normal October day, the sun dimly shining and the chilly breeze blowing. I walked up the steps to the hospital preparing myself for the news that the doctors was going to tell me about my mom. Opening the door I walked in and turned down the hallway on the left and went to room sixty-seven.
My mom laid on the bed with a blanket pulled up to her chin. All I could see was her skiny face and her sunken in eyes, she looked so fragile. I knew the cancer was spreading every day and her time here wasn't going to be much longer, and I had a feeling that was probably why the doctors called me and asked me to come here.
"Mom.?," I whispered softly not wanting to disturb my mom to much.
"Huh.?" she asked looking over in my direction. "Oh. Hi baby. What are you doing here.?"
"Just visiting ya." I said not wanting to tell her that the doctors had called me.
"Okay..." she said, knowing that I was lying to her. She turned back to a movie playing on her hospital T.v set. I walked over and sat in the flower printed chair next to her. The time ticked by slowly, then someone slightly knocked on the door.
"Come in." I said. The door swung open slowly and Dr. Jones poked his head in.
"Naveh, your here. Can I talk to you out in the hallway.?" he asked opening the door even more.
"Yea." I replied. I stood up slowly and moved toward the doorway, I grabbed the door handle and glanced back at my fragile mom. I shut the door, and turned to face the doctor.
"Naveh. Your mother is getting worse, and there is no way that we can help her. The cancer has spread to her lungs, and we have calculated that she has only a few more weeks to live."
I looked at him feeling my heart dropping to my stomach, how could this be.? I had never heard of cancer spreading as fast as hers was, and even though I had prepared myself for the worst I was still surprised. I thought that she would at least have a month or two left. My heart started to pound and my hands started to get sweaty, and I needed to leave because I knew what was going to happen.
"Tell my mom that I love her and that I will be back soon. Tell her that it's an emergence, she'll understand." I told Dr. Jones. Before he could answer I was running down the hallway toward the front door.
I ran down the steps, two at a time, and rounded the side of the hospital. I already knew where I was going, I was headed straight toward the woods that laid about forty yards away. I ran as fast as I could, my body was starting to shake, and my heart started to pound even harder. It was about to happen, and there was no stopping it.
As soon as I reached the woods it happened, I changed, I was now a werewolf. I was a monster, a monster that stood on all fours and was covered in fur. I kept running, and didn't even think about slowing down. I was about five miles away from the hospital when I stopped running. I let out a howl calling my half brother, who was also a werewolf. Being a werewolf was about the only thing either one of us inherited from our father.
Pacing back and forth I waited for him to respond, then I heard it a deep howl that came from the east of me. I took of running in his direction, letting out another howl. I dodged the trees as I ran, not coming close to hitting one. Then I heard his deep howl again, he was only about twenty feet away. I slowed my pace and then there he was standing in front of me. His fur was dark black, his eyes was charcoal gray, and he was about two feet taller than I was.
"What's wrong.?" Aiden growled.
"My mom. I was at the hospital and they told me that she only has a few more weeks to live." I answered. He stood there for a while staring into my big, brown, wolf eyes.
"I'm so sorry Naveh." he finally said. He looked away, not wanting to look at me anymore, and I could sense why, because he could see the pain in my eyes. We stood there in silence for awhile until he found the courage to look at me again. "What are you going to do.?," he asked me.
"I don't know.," I replied
* * * * * * * *
"Naveh I'm calling for your mom, she said that she wants to talk to you." Dr. Jones said over the telephone.
" Do you know what about.?" I asked Dr. Jones with concern.
"Um.. No. She just asked me to call you, that there was something that she needed to tell you."
"Okay. I'll be there as soon as I can."
"I will tell her. I have to go a patient needs me." he said quickly, then hung up the telephone.
I opened the door to my blue, chevy pickup truck, and stepped up inside. I slammed the door shut, and stuck the keys in ignition. My truck started and I slammed it in reverse, I backed out of the drive way, and put it in drive.
Walking up the steps to the hospital I tried to think of what was so important that my mom wanted to tell me, but nothing came to mind. I opened the door of the hospital and the smell of different sterilizing cleaners filled my noise. I took a left and went to room sixty-seven where my mom was. She looked just like she did from the last time I was there, fragile.
