Melody was laying in the cot, wide awake as the intercom blared through the halls outside her door.

"This is code 109 all troops to main gate, I repeat all troops to main gate." The lady's voice was loud and urgent. The heavy footsteps of guards as they ran down the halls was heard. It was chaotic with all the different sounds. Melody waited until it was dead silent to sit up. It didn't matter if all the guards were gone, nobody could escape if they tried. Every room was specific for each mutant to where they couldn't destroy anything. Her bare feet touched the cool pavement floor and she silently walked over to the door. There was a tiny window that she could see out of. The hall was brightly lit as always, she always wondered how the walls and floor was such a perfect white. The color was almost blinding. It seemed that all the other mutants were looking out too. Melody backed away and was going to lay back down when a loud explosive shook the entire building. She fell to her knees as dust fell from the ceiling and cracks formed along the concret. An alarm pierced through the entire building, high pitched as the pristine white hallways flashed with a red light.

"Evacuate down to the lower level immediately, you have 3 minutes. Evacuate down to the lower level immediately. You have 3 minutes."

The doors to the rooms flew open and mutants went running. Some got trampled down and were left behind in the mass amout of all of them. The stairs were spiraling down, and it almost seemed never ending. Melody helped a smaller girl up as she fell and tried pulling her along, but lost her in the crowd. It was hectic, especially with some of them trying to use their mutations. Ice hit the wall and the person in front of her was twitching, each time changing into a different person. The doors were starting to close when Melody shoved through. She found a spot against the wall and sat against it, hugging her knees to her chest. The others were getting settled as best they could with everyone crammed in such a small room. It was insanely quiet and dark. A girl, probably younger than Melody,  created a light in her hand and pushed it up to the ceiling. It lit up the whole room, showing the dark, damp walls and concrete floor. It was different than upstairs by far.

Maybe the night down here wouldn't be so bad.
