You stand at the clearing in your district. Your palms are sweaty, and you stare ahead of you like the peers around you at two bowls on a table. This is the Reaping.
You're nervous because you have godly blood running through your veins, which has led to a small paper with your name on it. If chosen, you will have to face others at a battle to the death in an arena.
The person standing behind the table rummages her hand in the bowl matching your gender and snatches a sheet of paper. The person calls the name written on the paper.
It's your name.
You step up to the table and shake the person's hand. The person says, "Welcome to the Godly Games." Just before you disappear behind her to prepare for a trip to the Capitol, you hear the person whisper one thing.
"May the gods be ever in your favor."
