When I woke up for the first time, there was a white wall around me. I had to break out and it was extremely hard. My head peeked out to see some water and some sand. I dashed off as fast as I could and did not look back.
When I got deep into the dark blue ocean I finally looked back to see five other turtles. I was shocked to see only five turtles. All I saw were small coral houses and anemone plants.
I remembered, before I hatched, my mother told me to go to the naming turtle so I could have a name for myself. When I was finally there I didn't know what to do. The other five turtles and I went inside to see the naming turtle.
I went in last and I memorised everyone's names.
Kelly (boy)
Alex (girl)
Brandon
Courtney
Harris
It was my turn. I was shaking.
My name was Shelly. We all walked to the entrance and the naming turtle gave all of the girls shell necklaces and all of the boys shark teeth neckbands.
"Haha you got Kelly," Alex said pointing at Kelly.
"You got a name only, like, twelve percent of girls use!" Kelly said apparently furious.
"Shelly, Courtney, don't you think Kelly for a boys' name is ridiculous?"
Courtney didn't say anything.
"Court?"
"What's your sufname?" Kelly asked.
"My what?" I asked looking at him confused.
"A sufname. Humans have last names and we have sufnames. So what's yours?"
So far we all said different things, (which I am sad about since I am the only one that survived in my family) but I remembered all of them.
Kelly Conch
Alex Blacksands
Brandon Dock
Harris Rehoboth.
It was all down to me and Courtney.
"Courtney Bottlebay." Courtney said, "That's not a very bad name."
"No way!" I said.
"What?" Courtney asked.
"You're Courtney Bottlebay? I'm Shelly Bottlebay!"
