"b5," a whisper came out of sams mouth. the brunette found the study room tucked behind bookshelves of science fiction. opening the door, she revealed a whiteboard covered in indistinguishable pictures, papers set out perfectly on the desk, and catherine sitting at the table.
without looking up from her notes, catherine said "alright, are you ready to study?"
just as she had stopped talking, she looked up to see someone she never expected. catherine huffed.
"you're my tutor?" sam spat out.
"you have any other brilliant ideas on getting this information? I mean, other than listening in class?" catherine fired back.
a silence fell in between the two before sam shut the door behind her. the athlete swung her backpack onto the chair beside her and laid back in her seat nonchalantly.
the whole study session started awkward, well at least on catherines side. sam had piercing blue eyes that demanded attention. catherine never really had the spotlight on her often, so having the top athlete in the school stare her down while she explained the mess of the whiteboard was nerve wracking.
time had passed, and catherine could finally get into the politics of the 1800s. "basically thomas jefferson knew he had no chance of winning that election without multiple key endorsements. especially one from a federalist. so like I was saying earlier, who do you think was the most infl-"
"ah- gotta go," sam interrupted.
"were you even listening?"
"I mean, yeah but, I have practice."
catherine rolled her eyes. "okay but why couldn't you let me finish my sentence."
sam picked up her bag and started to walk out the door.
"what am I? invisible?" catherine scoffed.
"no, I can see you," sam started as her body was halfway out the door. "but you're just not that interesting. I have better things to do."
the door shut.
catherine was left standing in the room speechless.
sam had multiple thoughts, but only one she couldn't shake. that's the most i've ever heard her talk.
