"Breakfast is ready, (Y/n)!" Mom shouted from the kitchen.
"Okay!" I reply, bouncing down the wooden staircase.
I entered the dining room and took a seat on a chair. I quickly ate my salmon and rice, practically wolfing down the whole meal, excited to attend school in a new country.
While I stuffed my foot into my shoes, Mom came out of the kitchen and put a bright yellow sun hat on my head.
I scratched at it. "Mom! It's messing up my hair!"
"Well, things are different here in Japan. The hat is a part of your school uniform."
I lifted the bottom of the baby blue coat I was wearing. "Then what's this coat for?"
"Think of it like your grembiule."
I reluctantly went back to fitting my shoes onto my feet. Then, I waved goodbye to Mom and waited outside of my house for Jotaro to walk to school together. His home is right in front of mine.
A minute later, I could see Jotaro running towards me, wheeling a bicycle.
"Hey, Jojo, whose bike is that?" I questioned, looking at the shiny blue bike.
"It's my new bike! Gramps got me last week and taught me how to ride it the last few days," he answered. "Mama said the school is far away, but with the bike, we can get there in 10 minutes or less!"
"That's pretty cool, but can't our moms drive us to school?"
"Your mom and my mom said they want us to be 'independent'."
"In-die-pin-dant?" I repeated. "Sounds funny."
"C'mon, let's go." Patting the rear pannier rack, he gestured for me to sit. "We don't wanna be late for kindergarten!"
"Wait, what if I fall?"
"You won't! You can put your arms around me."
I hopped on the back of the bike and wrapped my arms around his waist.
My hair whipped back as Jotaro peddled the bike. We were flying down the street at a speed that felt like it could rival a cheetah.
A few minutes later, we stopped at the entrance of the school.
"We're here!" Jotaro announced enthusiastically.
I marveled at the school and watched another kid go down a giraffe slide. "Woah..."
The walls and interior were painted in pastel colors, and there was a big playground.
Jotaro turned to me. "Where are we supposed to go first?" he asked.
"I don't know..." I pointed at the first building I saw. "How about that building?"
"Okay, sure!" Jotaro opened the sliding door and walked up to the counter, where an elderly man in a yellow vest stood.
"Uhmm..." he began.
I leaned into his ear and whispered, "Don't worry; I'll ask him,"
"Hi! My name is (Y/N) Yamamoto! This is Jotaro Kujo. We're new here!"
"Oh, you must be new students! Where are your parents?" he asked us in a rough, low voice.
"They said they want us to be... 'independent'," I immediately replied.
"Oh, I see. Okay, children follow me to class."
We trailed behind him as he led us to another building, with sunflower stickers taped to its glass door.
