Everly's POV

"Congratulations, Everly." My father said, smiling. I beamed at him.

"I can finally control my ability! Thank you so much, Dad!" I said. Dad grinned.

"So, Everly, you don't have to be home-schooled anymore. Would you like to go to a public school?" Dad suggested. My eyes widened.

"T-then, can I go to school with John?" I asked. Dad considered this.

"Maybe. Give me some time to think, okay? Oh, and call your brother if you want to." Dad stood up and walked to the other room to answer a call from his editor. I hesitated, then pulled out my phone. I typed the password in, to reveal a picture of John and I from when we were ten. We were both seventeen now. I opened the "calling app" and tapped John's name. I held the phone to my ear as I waited for John to answer. Suddenly I heard John's voice.

"Hello?"

"Hi, John, it's Everly!" I said.

"Oh, hey Everly! How are you doing?"

"I'm doing fine! Guess what! I can finally control my ability now!" I answered.

"Oh, CONGRATULATIONS!!! The person who couldn't control her ability because she was too powerful for her body has finally taken it over!!!!" John yelled into the phone, joy in his voice. I beamed.

"Thanks! Also, would it be okay if I attended school with you?" I asked. John suddenly goes silent. After about a minute he replies.

"That..would be great, Everly!" he said. Right then, at that moment, I knew something was wrong.

"J-John? Is something wrong? If there is, you can trust me." I said hesitantly. There was a long pause on the other side before he answered.

"Nothing's wrong, Everly. Don't worry about it." John answered.

"So would it be okay if I came?" I asked.

"Of course! I gotta do some homework." John said. I felt my face brighten. Being cooped inside, being a danger to people meant that I wasn't allowed to explore the outdoors. I wanted to know all about this 'homework'.

"Can you tell me the questions through the phone?" I asked. I could practically hear John's smirk from the phone.

"Okay, fine, sis." John said.

>>>

"Everly, are you done yet? It's been two hours..." Dad said. I looked up from some pen and paper.

"O-oh, really?" I said. I heard John yawning through the phone.

"John, I think you should go to bed now. Good night and sweet dreams~" I said.

"You too, sis. Love ya. Bye." And just like that the phone call ended.

>>>

"Good morning, Everly! Good news! You got into Wellston! You can move in to John's house this weekend!" Dad said, smiling. I slammed my hands on the table by surprise.

"What?! Really?!" I yelled.

"Of course! Since it's Friday, pack as much as you can, and we'll go to the airport in the morning. Oh, and do you want to let John know or should I?" Dad asked.

"Don't worry! I will!" I said and ran off to my room.

>>>

I finished packing. FINALLY. I whipped out my phone and dialed John's number and collapsed on my bed, sinking in what wouldn't be my home anymore...tomorrow, listening to the calming sound of the phone ringing, just...

"HELLO, EVERLY!! RIGHT NOW I'M AT THE ROOFTOP OF THE SCHOOL AND I JUST FEEL LIKE SHOUTING SO I AM!!!!" John's voice startled me.

"JOHN GUESS WHAT I WAS EXCEPTED I'M MOVING TOMORROW!!!!!!" I screamed.

"YEAH SIS! WAY TO GO! SEE YOU AT THE AIRPORT~ I gotta get to my next class. Bye!" He said.

"Bye!" I answered, and ended the call. 'I'm finally going to see John again!' I thought happily.

>>>

"Thank you for everything! I'll try to visit!" I said, hugging him tightly. He smiled and patted me on the back.

"Oh my goodness, both of my tiny children are all grown ups now." He said, his eyes watering. I smiled. Just then they called my flight.

"I gotta go. Bye Dad! I love you!" were my last words as I went to board the plane.

>>>

When I got off the plane, I looked everywhere for those familiar midnight bangs and golden eyes. I saw him, waving at me, smiling. I ran over, dragging my suitcase. I reached out and hugged him tightly. He returned the gesture.

"Here, let me help you with your bag." He said, and took my backpack off my shoulders.

"John! It's been so long!" I said. He smiled.

"Yeah, Everly. I'm glad to see you again!" He said.

>>>

"So this is your house?" I asked.

"Yup!" He said proudly. It was nice and neat. I liked it.

"Come on! I have an extra room prepared for you!" He said, and unlocked the front door. Everything was nice and neat on the inside, too. He showed me my room. Then he went to make pancakes for dinner. I started unpacking. I was done in about fifty minutes. I quickly checked to make sure John was busy and pulled out a book Dad had given me. He had said to be VERY careful with it and not get caught with it, or else I would face consequences. I noticed it was titled 'Unordinary'. I flipped it open and it said, To my son. This must have been Dad's way of helping John get over the 'incident' at New Boston. I was kind of wistful, though. But I knew I shouldn't be. I flipped to the next page and kept reading, only stopping when John called me for dinner. He was quiet during dinner. I put my hand on his.

"John? I-Is something wrong?" I asked, remembering the tone of his voice from the phone call. He shook his head and smiled. We ate the rest of our dinner in silence.

>>>

I flopped onto my bed and pulled out Unordinary from under my pillow and took my bookmark out. I was so focused on reading I didn't hear John's footsteps coming from down the hall.

"Everly?" He said, opening the door. And there I was, caught dead in reading an illegal book.

"Oh, you have Unordinary too? I thought Dad gave me the last copy." John said calmly.

"You have one too?" I asked. He nodded. Just then, his phone rang.

"Hello? Oh, hi, Sera." A pause.

"What? You want to meet up tomorrow at Kovoro Mall? Ah, sorry, my twin sister just moved in. What? You want her to come? Okay, well, I'll ask." He ended the call and turned to me.

"My friend wants to go shopping with you and me. Do you want to come?"John asked.

"SURE!!!" I yelled excitedly.

"Well then, see you first thing in the morning! Good night, sis!"

"Good night!" I called out. He smiled, and shut the door.
