"You children came to me in the middle of the night just so I could cast a spell that will bring your real mother back?!" Cedric exclaimed groggily, rubbing his eyes.

The twins nodded eagerly.

"Now that is the most absurd request I've ever heard. I have never tried resurrection. Well, goodnight now, children," said Cedric, shooing them away to the door, but Amber held the door open.

"I'll give you anything in exchange. I have jewels, tiaras, expensive silk--everything, all of which you could sell. I'll trade all of them for my mother. I love her more than anything and anyone," Amber insisted.

"Anything, you say?" A smile crept up Cedric's face.

"Anything."

"I must warn you that a resurrection spell takes a week to be able to work. The ingredients are: two cups of hocus crocus, a pinch of pixie dust, five teaspoons of gargoyle oil, a piece of each of your hairs, and... a large purple jewel. And at the moment I have most but a purple jewel."

"By purple jewel, do mean Sofia's amulet?"

"Yes, of course Sofia's amulet!"

"Okay, but we'll need a plan to steal it."

"Wait!" James objected, his eyebrows furrowed. "You can't do that! It's thievery and it's unfair! Sofia never did anyhting wrong!"

"James, this is for Mom! You don't understand! Miranda is ruining my life--our life! Besides, why would you stick up for someone who isn't even your true sister?" Amber cried.

"True sister?" James scoffed, "the only one who's been like a true sister to me is Sofia. You were never there for me, but Sofia was always there to help me. I'm going to warn her about your sick plan."

Meanwhile, Cedric watched awkwardly. He was never the most understanding person in the palace, but he knew never to get involved in familial conflicts, not even the children's.

James turned his back to the sorcerer and his own sister and headed for the door angrily until he heard a familiar melody.

I'm your twin, you're my twin

We stick together through thick and thin

No matter what I do

I'm always stuck with you

Amber sang, her voice choked with tears.

James froze. It was their own special twin song they had composed together when they were younger. He remembered those days when they splashed each other in the tub and covered themselves with chocolate cake. True, Amber could be a pain in the neck, but he knew he could never replace her, not even with Sofia.

He sang back:

And when trouble comes our way

I know my twin will save the day

James turned around and rushed to Amber's side. He placed his hand reassuringly on her shoulder and said, "Okay. I won't tell Sofia. I'll support your plan."

Amber burst into joyful tears and pulled her brother into a tight embrace. "Oh, I'm so glad! I thought I lost my only brother!" she exclaimed in delight.

James hugged back, still feeling slightly uncomfortable.

Cedric's lips curled into a devious smile.

"Well, children," he began, "you know what to do."
