After a while of mostly picking at her food, our little heroine began to straighten things up around the house. She started in the kitchen, washing and putting away the things from the sink.

'It's the least I can do' she thought wistfully. 'Grandma would hate to have everything stay in such disarray.'

As she moved on to wipe the shelves and counters, she started to notice things were missing. It had been a while, but on one shelf she was sure a silver pitcher used to sit, on another, her grandmother's favorite copper tea kettle. Looking around just the kitchen and dining, she determined that over a dozen items were not where they had been.

'I wonder what happened. Surely grandma didn't need money so suddenly that she sold off so many of her favorite things.' Her curiosity aroused, she put down her cleaning rag and went to look in the other rooms.

She was unwilling to face her grandmother's bedroom again so soon, thus she began in the guest bedroom.

She opened the closed door and gave a startled shriek. There, lounging on the guest bed was a tall and wiry man, and on the floor next to the bed was a large, very suspicious, sack.

"Well, well, well. You're still here, hmm? I heard you knock a while ago and made myself scarce, but you still haven't left I see." The man said with a sly voice, unfolding himself slowly from the bed to stand.

"Wh-who are you?" she asked, her heart in her throat from shock and the feeling of danger pressing upon her.

"Barnaby J Wolfe" he said with a little bow, "but you may call me Mr. Wolfe." His eyes glinted in such an unpleasant way, that brave Red found herself stepping back in trepidation.

"What business do you have here?" Her voice a little stronger, she still continued to retreat slowly, keeping her eyes on him. He followed her.

"Why I just came by to pick up a few things. Pity about that old woman, still, it made it so very easy to gather quite a few objects of value with no one here to stop me. Finders keepers and all that you know. In fact, I think I've found yet another treasure." His arm lashed out suddenly and his fingers flipped her hood back.

"Yes, such a beautiful treasure. My, just look at that golden hair and those bright eyes." His leering grin stretched widely across his face.

Eyes wide, Red gave a piercing scream.
