Chapter One
I woke up to the sound of yelling. Big surprise. They're fighting about Zeke again.
"NO, OF COURSE I HAVEN'T TOLD HIM YET! HE WON'T EVER BE THE SAME AGAIN!" Mum screams. I hear Dad respond. Thank God Zeke went to stay at his friends house. He can't know yet, not until they know if it's really true. I hear a crash, probably Dad dropping something as he goes to work. He's always more clumsy and careless after they argue. I hate it so much. Everyone says families are meant to fight, but not like this. This is worse. I throw on an off the shoulder top and a high waisted skirt. I grab my shoes on the way out, no time for breakfast, maybe Aaron has a packet of chips in his car or something. I shut the gate just as Aaron pulls up outside my house. I'm in the process of tying up my hair so he gets out and opens my door.
"They fighting again?" I nod. He gives me a quick hug. "It'll be okay Ash." I give him a quick half-smile, but don't say anything on the way to school.
"Damm!" My lock wont open. I bang it against the locker door in frustration, muttering under my breath. Someone taps me, and I drop my stuff in surprise. Some guy I've never seen before hands me my books, wincing and leaning on one leg.
"Hi, I'm Rick. Sorry i scared you" he says.
"Hi, I'm Ashleigh. Sorry my chem book hates your foot." I reply, a bit distracted with my lock.
"Um, well I'm new around here and I was wondering if you could tell me what this means?" I look at his scheldule.
"Well, you have Chem with me, then english." I say, turning to him while shutting my locker door. Woah. I blink and start gaping like an idiot. This guys hot! He stares at me. I can feel myself blushing so I grab his arm and drag him to our class.
"Well here we are!" I says quickly, then almost run into the room. He follows me looking fairly amused, and sits next to me. I try to avoid looking at him for the rest of the lesson. Easier said then done. When the lessons over he smiles at me. "See you later?" I nod. After he leaves, I breath out in relief. I've done it. I've suceeded in pretending to be the happy girl I used to be before the holidays. Before my brother got epilepsy, my baby sister died, my parents started fighting and I started to hate my life.
