Tatum's POV

The next night, Sheriff Keller comes to the apartment to talk to Polly, about the Jason situation. Betty decides to come too, not that I'm complaining.

"That was the last day you saw him?" Sheriff Keller questions.

"At Pop's, when he told me the plan." Polly confirms, nodding. "That he was going to fake his own death, and then we would meet up. But before that could happen, my mom and dad sent me away."

"One of Jason's teammates said that before he ran away, Jason was dealing drugs." Betty says.

"Making a one-time delivery." Polly explains. "He needed-- We needed money. To get away and start over."

"So, Riverdale's star football player becomes a drug mule?" Sheriff Keller questions.

"He went to a bar on the other side of the tracks, and made a deal with some biker gang." Polly says.

"The Serpents?" Sheriff Keller asks.

"He got an address upstate, where he was supposed to deliver the drugs in exchange for cash." Polly continues.

"The drugs you two found in Jason's car." Sheriff Keller concludes.

"Yeah." Betty and I both nod.

"Went up in flames." Sheriff Keller continues.

"Along with everything I had left of Jason. Including, the ring his nana gave me, which he was keeping until..." Polly trails off, and she's about to cry. Mom stands up.

"Okay, sheriff, I think that's enough for tonight. I think Polly needs her rest." Mom says.

"Well, I'll be in touch, ladies." Sheriff Keller says. Mom goes to show him out.

"We're gonna get you through this, okay?" Betty soothes her sister, rubbing a hand over her back. "Come here." She hugs her sister.

The next day, me, and all my friends are sitting in the student lounge. And, Betty's talking about Polly.

"Polly's convinced herself no one wants her baby." Betty says.

"Besides, of course, the child-snatching Blossom monsters." Kevin responds. Cheryl, who is also here, sends a glare at him. "No offense, Cheryl."

"None taken." Cheryl states.

"So, your mom and dad want Polly but not the baby, and the Blossoms want the baby and not Polly." Jughead concludes. "It's a true Gordian knot."

"It's an impossible situation." Betty says.

"Betty, come on. An impossible situation is being invited to the Vanity Flair Oscar party and Elton John's Oscar party on the same night, which happened to me one year. I know." Veronica brags. She looks at Kevin at the last part. 

"This is merely an annoying situation." Veronica continues. "But luckily, I have been percolating on an idea, hellishly simple in its conception. What if Taty and I were to host a baby shower?"

Did I agree to this?

"Count me in." Cheryl says, straight away.

"You want Polly to feel loved and supported, right?" Veronica asks.

"Yeah, but ideally by her own parents." Betty answers.

"Okay, so baby steps, girl." Veronica says. "Get Polly and your parents in the same room, in a public setting where they can't fight, and voilà, let the healing begin. Betty, what do you say?"

She smiles, but before she can respond, her mother comes into the room.

"Elizabeth Cooper." She says.

"Mom?" Betty questions.

"I need you, you and you." Alice points to Betty, Veronica and I. "Right now." Alice takes us into an empty classroom, and tells us to sit down at the desks.

"Sheriff Keller told us everything." Alice announces, and paces across the room in from of us. "How you're hiding Polly at the Pembrooke."

"Better than in an insane asylum." Betty argues.

"Actually, Mrs. Cooper, that's on me." I say. "I was the one who suggested that Polly stay with us."

"She's trying to help, unlike you and dad, who want Polly to give the baby up for adoption." Betty defends me. I send her a smile.

"Betty, it's what's best for Polly and the baby." Alice argues.

"Mom, that's not your choice. Your choice is whether or not you wanna be a part of Polly's life." Betty says. "Veronica and Tatum have offered to host a baby shower."

"Well, that is hardly appropriate." Alice states.

"Really?" Betty asks, and she slides out the seat. "Because I think it's an amazing idea. You wanna be loving and supportive, like a normal grandmother, then great. Otherwise, stay away."

We send Alice smirks, and then she eventually leaves the room.

The next morning, at breakfast, we tell Polly our idea for the baby shower.

"A baby shower? Are you sure that's a good idea?" Polly asks.

"It is." Betty replies. 

"It's a great idea." I say.

"What about Mom and Dad?" Polly asks.

"Well, what do you want, honey? I mean, do you want them to come?" Mom asks.

"I do. I mean, Mom at least." Polly answers.

"In that case, we'll get her there, somehow." Veronica assures.

"But, I do not want to get in a fight with her." Polly sighs.

"You won't." Betty says. She reaches across the table and takes her sister's hand. "The entire Cooper family will support you on this, Polly." 

"I want the Blossoms there." Polly states.

"Cheryl, sure. She's on the guest list." Veronica says.

"And Mrs. Blossom." Polly adds.

"She just tried to declare you an unfit mother." Betty says.

"Well, then this shower's the perfect opportunity for me to prove to her that I'm not." Polly replies. Mom then takes Veronica away from the table to talk to her.

My phone rings, and the caller ID comes on the screen: Little Bro 

"I gotta take this." I say. I answer the phone, and go into my room.

"Hey, Arch. What's up?" I ask him.

"Dad's entire crew quit yesterday, and I have a plan." Archie replies.

"His entire crew quit? On the first day?" I question. That's bad. Really bad.

"Yeah, but I have an idea." Archie says.

"What is it?" I ask him. 

"So, we're going to take his crew's place for today. It might make him feel a lot better." Archie answers. "I've got some of the Bulldogs, Kevin and Jughead to help. But, I was hoping you'd come too."

"Yeah, why not." I agree, nodding my head. "I'll see you in a bit, Arch."

"Bye, Taty." He says, and hangs up the phone.
