"Tuesday then?" Amber gives me a hopeful smile, with a hand lying on her waist, in a bit pretentious pose.
"I think I might be busy, you know, that music industry always keeps you going.." I try to find a way to politely say No to her suggestion, even when my heart is screaming right in the face of my not so sane mind, begging me to say Yes.
"Well, I won't chase you Turner, just to get a drink together. It's your last chance." I want to grab her, and just take her offer, I want her to smile at me, instead of that illusory grin upon her face.
There's a body getting in between us, his hands wrap around my shoulders. "I'm afraid Alex, our plans got cancelled, you can't skip a meeting with this, let me say, brilliant girl. Amber, I assume." Matt stretched his arm at her, like a greeting.
"Amber Dean." She softly shakes his giant palm, immediately letting go of his hand.
"Matthew Helders." He looks up and down, exploring every inch of her outlooks. "So, what's your answer Al?"
"Tuesday, I'm fine with Tuesday." I answer to her, turning him aside, almost stepping on his leg and whispering in a silent shouting. "What are you doing?"
"Getting you out of your cave, what you think?"
"Fuck off, Helders."
"What the boys are talking about?" Her voice makes us turn around with those a bit too wide smiles on our faces.
"So.. Tuesday, you say." I nervously giggle, now, pushing Matt away and fixing my jacket. "Since we have nothing to do, Matt will be by my side. He needs to get some fresh air."
He started off his excuse by "I don't think.." but Amber's voice went over his as she cheered. "Oh, I think I should grab my friend Ethel then, a little hang out for her won't bite either."
He mouthed one simple cuss, accidentally hitting my shoulder as walking pass us and saying in a friendly tone "I'll leave you two alone, love birds."
Later on he will shout at me, why'd I drag him into this, and I would simply answer, that he started it first. He didn't need to make me go on a date, so I had to make it less intimate.
I sat down next to her on bar stools, watching a mass of people grinding into each other by the rhythm, still getting flashbacks of the previous girl, cascades of her hair and the scent of her neck. It was a great distraction from the fact, that there was Amber, fixing her skin tight dress graciously enfolding her tiny waist and bit boyish hips. She was no a perfect figured hourglass girl, she wasn't chubby either. Her soft body lines would catch my eye time from time, but I wouldn't say a word.
"Read the article already?" She asked, and I simply shook my head. "You are not so talkative this time, Turner."
I could see her watching my profile, and I needed to string myself up to not look back at her.
"You look at them like you miss being there." She said, with a voice that sounded more than sure.
"It's not quite the alike, what I miss. I mean, you can't really miss something you never felt." My answer is something tricky, I didn't actually know why I said so. "I miss knowing what it feels like to be on the other side when I'm on stage. Does it look the same?"
"That feeling you get when you hear people chanting your lyrics, is quite the same as seeing you performing, I'm pretty sure." She pointed to the dance floor. "It's not like there, it's better. But having a dance is always worth it."
"I think I might pass it on." I laughed off running through her words in my head again. "You were in our concert?"
"Multiple times." She twisted a hair strand around her finger, turning aside and resting one elbow on the bar. I didn't catch how I did almost the same, like I was just a puppet on a string. I wasn't even drunk, it was all about her; I couldn't resist anymore.
"I didn't notice you." I said, like it wasn't obvious, that there's just too many people to focus on one girl.
"Well, then many people lied to me, saying that ginger girls are easy to see in a crowd." She giggled, revealing her white teeth.
I had this stupid comment spinning on my tongue, and I let it go "I like your hair."
I said, but kept looking at her lips.
And when the lights flash in her eyes, it's not the devil what I see. She's nothing like Johanna. Unfortunately, her cheerfulness pushed me into the memories of Sky. Her fingers laying on mine dragged me out of reality, when I heard her voice "Wanna leave this place?"
This time, I controlled myself, moving my hand away from hers, saying "No, I still need to find someone."
I threw myself into that bunch smelling like alcohol, searching for nothing, but actually, always getting back to her in my mind. She was so electric, and I loved being electruced. Sadly, it wasn't deathly for me, because if it was, I wouldn't be running away.
