March 2015
Soo-Ah sits near the rink tying up her laces. It's just like every other day where she puts on her right skate, then her left. Today, the skaters at TCC would have a group lesson and she would see everyone, it would be a normal day. She finishes tying her left boot and then directs her attention towards the ice. The only one here other than her was Yuzuru Hanyu. He is immersed in his choreography not knowing Soo-Ah presence in the rink. Soo-Ah watches as Yuzuru does a beautiful textbook triple axel. She claps. Yuzu finally notices and skates over.
"Ohayogozaimasu Sorano-chan!" He smiles.
"Ohayo Yuzuru-Kun." Soo-Ah replies shyly.
Even after training for a year now with Yuzuru Hanyu, she can't get over the fact that she's training with a Olympic Gold Medalist. Although she's related to him and has known him her whole life, she still thinks very highly of him.
He asks her how her triple axel is coming along and she says it's actually alright and that the rotation are there she just has to work on the landing. He gives her some advice and ruffles her hair with his hand.
"Oh yeah, we have a new train mate today." Yuzuru-kun suddenly brings up.
"Really?" For the past year, Soo-Ah has been the only addition to Team Orser, she loved meeting new people so, she was a bit excited.
"Wow! We really have a new train mate?"
Yuzu and Soo-Ah both turned toward the door where Nam Nguyen was standing. Yuzu and Soo-Ah said their "good mornings" and Javier Fernandez arrived.
"Hey, guys!" Javi smiled cheerfully.
Javi was also a skater Soo-Ah looked up to, but there was just a casualness about him that made her a little more comfortable talking to him.
"Hi, Javi!" Soo-Ah smiled.
Javi came over and ruffled her hair as well.
"Good Morning Angelica!"
This was normal they would call me by different names and treat Soo-Ah as a child. This was starting as a normal day.
"Well, looks like almost all my students are here!" It was Mr.Orser.
Mr. Orser had told Soo-Ah to call him "Coach Brian" but talking to someone of greater status while using their first name was not something she was comfortable with. She had just gotten used to calling Yuzuru by his first name.
"As some of you already know, we are having a new train mate." Coach Brian announced. "at first I wasn't going to take him in....but because he has great potential I decided to."
"Coach." Yuzuru's hand went up.
"Yes?" Coach Brian asked.
"Will Soo-ah still be the youngest?"
Soo-Ah tilts her head a little.
Surely it would be someone older
"Yes, I believe so." Mr. Orser answered. " He should be here any minu-"
The door leading to the rink suddenly opened and a boy walked in. He was tall for his age and had a bull cut. Coach Brian smiled and motioned him over. Soo-Ah tried to get a better look at the boy, so she walks closer. It was then that Soo-Ah and this boy's eyes met and they gasped.
"It's you!" They both said in unison.
It was snowing. Snowflakes cascaded down upon the streets of Seoul. Two figures hiked through the streets. It's a boy and a girl.
"This is your place, right?" the boy asked as he stopped in front of a tall apartment building.
"Y-yeah." the girl shivers. She seems to disappear inside the large coat that the boy gave her. "Are you sure you aren't cold?"
"I'm fine." He shifts the scarf on his neck. "I'll see you tomorrow."
He turns to leave. The girl watched him go biting her lip.
"Wait."
The boy stops.
"Please Wait."
He stands still, lifting his head up to the sky. The girl feels hot tears build up in her eyes.
"I won't be here...tomorrow..." She began, "I won't be here anymore. I'm going to be training elsewhere..."
She pauses for a moment to collect herself. She smiles.
"You won't have to deal with me anymore...None of the girls at school will ever judge you again...you will have the friends you want..."
Tears glide down her cheeks and she stops in between sentences so her voice won't break. The boy stands unmoving.
"Junnie. I'm sorry. I didn't tell you...I just couldn't bring myself to tell you."
The girl takes off the oversized coat and walks up to the boy. She stands directly behind him and tugs at his sweater as she always does. He doesn't turn around. She sighs and carefully sets the jacket over his shoulders. He still doesn't turn around.
"I'm sorry." She whispers again.
-I love you- she thinks
Seeing that the boy has no reaction at all. She leaves.
The snow kept falling after that. The streets started filling up with snow. A single tear glided from his cheek.
"Please don't leave me alone..." He whispers to the cold winter air.
She's gone.
