It's a few weeks into the school year and it's a whole new world. Things are happening that I never thought would. I'm doing good in math and Zach and I have a streak. I also have a streak with Ari and Logan. Me and Savannah are good enough friends with them where we can just walk up and talk to them during lunch and we have all even hung out outside of school. I can feel myself slowly starting to get over Zach since me and Logan have been flirting. Nothing is going fast which I like. We are only flirting in class and we will slide up on each other's stories sometimes. Zach and I are slowly becoming better and better friends though. We've FaceTimed three times and just talked and we text a lot. Even though we are getting close I feel more romantically towards Logan. Today Zach and I are going to Olivers to get burritos and milkshakes for sixth period. Savannah and Andrew were going to come but they were "studying for psych" somewhere. We are in Olivers in a huge hurry when we finally get to the check out line. While waiting in line we argue over who is going to pay for my stuff but we get interrupted when the cashier says "Hey do I know you from somewhere?"
Zach and I look at each other in confusion before I respond. "No I don't think so," I look down and fumble with my wallet. I was uncomfortable and nervous and it showed. I was struggling to get my card out so Zach just inserted his card into the machine.
The cashier then continued to flirt and was totally neglecting his screen and finishing the transaction, "Well can I get your snap, ya know just in case I remember where I know you from?" I was preparing myself to say no when all of a sudden I didn't have to.
Zach sighed and suddenly said, "How about you hop off and just do your damn job." Shocked, I look up to him and see his angry gaze pointed to the cashier and his jaw clenched. I didn't exactly know what to say and neither did the cashier. He just stared at Zach for a moment then snapped out of it, tapped his screen and few times and handed us the receipt.
We return to the car in silence because he still seemed pretty upset. When we get in the car I ask if he's okay and he says he's fine but I don't buy it. We pulled into the school and parked and right when I was about to open my door Zach said, "Wait." I looked at him with a confused expression waiting for him to continue. "Let's ditch," he says excitedly. His whole tone had changed. He was suddenly giddy and full of life. I could see it in his eyes.
"What do you mean ditch? We have to go to art, it isn't even a hard class why would we ditch?" I ask. I truly had no idea what he was up to and I was honestly concerned.
"I mean just to get away. Let's go to the coast and just eat our food and hang for a bit," he says all of this while giving me a look full of wonder and excitement and I just couldn't say no.
"Ugh okay fine let's go," I let out with a subtle giggle. He immediately puts the car in reverse and goes out the parking lot way faster than he should've. I almost wanted to turn around and look for rubber marks.
