Hide & Seek:

Prolouge

I had just left the coffee shop around ten o'clock with a friend, Aron Watts. He wanted to walk me home, but I declined with a smile pasted onto my face. It wasn't too late, plus I was a big girl. I mean, I am a college student who is independent with a apartment just up the street. I looked at his warm smile when he placed his hand on my arm when I tried walking away from him.

"Shelby, it's late. Are you sure you don't want me to guide you home?" He asked with questionable eyes on my face. He really tried to pressure me into this.

I gave a light chuckle and eased his grip off of my forearm, "Aron it's really unneeded. I already asked too much of you when you came for coffee at almost ten in the night. I don't need your help. It's only four blocks away."

His deep gray eyes were hard to read in the dark. After his eyes left my face they searched ahead of me and then took in a sigh and looked back to me. "Just be safe Shelby."

"I will," I smiled and tangled my hair with my fingers.

"I'll see you in class first thing in the morning." He said from behind me because I had already started to walk in the way of my apartment. I was in a kind of rushed to get home.

It was so cold out this November night. I could see my fogged breath in the air as I breathed. I dug my fingers into my coat as I proceed down the long cemented sidewalk. The air was dropping in temperature around me and my bottom lip decided to quiver as I turned down Jefferson Road.

The buildings around me were big; I lived in the city by book stores to strip clubs. It was unusually quiet tonight and I didn't like that much. I started to walk faster in a hurried manner to get down to my apartment faster.

It was only until I felt a giant foot hit against my rib knocking me into a brick building making me stop. My head had suffered a slight splitting against the brick because of the fact I felt a warmed liquid substance as it dripped down my scalp.

I looked up at the dark figure that was stood above me and started to scoot back into the alley way. I could hardly see him, but the way he had just hit me before made me believe he that could and would do more damage to me if he wanted to. And I believed that he wanted to with the way his eyes were glued onto my face with distaste.

"Listen," his voice was low and raspy and held a thick accent. That voice was quiet familiar, but I didn't know how. How could it be when I never seen this man in my life? His knees buckled under him, so he was bent down in front of me. I could finally see his face, he was a pale white man with golden eyes. He couldn't be older than myself. He had darkish messy hair and one pierced ear. "I bet you don't remember me Shelby," his voiced hissed into my ear. I think I some how pissed him off without even trying.

He would be correct. I did not remember him because there was no memories of him.

I had no intention to answer him. I felt if I did my face would get hit with that golden ring on his left hand. I shook my head ever so slightly and his hand caught onto my throat. He didn't squeeze, so I was glad for that. However, the fear had already struck into me that he could take my life at any given moment.

The muscles to his lips pulled into a smirk and his eyebrow cocked up. "You don't? Well that's too bad. That means you forgot how to fight back, so this... this could be easy. I could kill you so quickly," his voice shook with pleasure as he leaned down to lick my neck. That felt wrong. His tongue was an ice cold and hard; It felt inhuman.

He quickly regained his self and brought his lips back to my ear and whispered, "But I'm a changed man... I'll give you thirty days Shelby, thirty short days. Are you any good at hide and seek?" That question was very strange, and what he was saying brought fright to my heart. I had no choice. It's time for me to play hide and seek.
