Chapter A:

Rules.

He gave me facts... facts that he knows that will happen  in this game of hide and seek. This wasn't your ordinary children's game. And I was terrified for my life.

I was still curled up against the wall of the building when he finally left. He told me one simple thing; leave ten minutes after he did, and don't talk about what just happened. I wouldn't break either of those because his eyes could be anywhere. I felt hopeless. Our game started tomorrow.

Once I watched his long coat train flow around the corner, I got up slowly. I felt dizzy; my blood had flowed to the bash and clogged it up with my hair. To dumb it down it meant it stopped bleeding. Also, there was a fierce pain and it throbbed inside of the cut. I didn't think it was that bad to go to the hospital for it though.

It was time for me to start walking the short way to my apartment, but I had my guard up the whole time. I became paranoid on my way back home. I looked around every corner. I even took note of how many people I saw walking past me, and right now it was only about five people. The looked alright, but my guard was still kept up.

Once I made it to my apartment building on the corner of Levitt street. I raced to the twirling doors, forgetting the apartment usher. I forgot to let him know I actually lived here. He caught my arm right when I was headed into the building. I jerked away fast and looked to him.

"Ma'am, why are you here," his voice was soft. He was on the elder side, maybe he could be fifty. He was in good shape for an elderly man. I smiled at him and showed him my access pass.

"I live here," I said quickly. I wanted nothing more then to be in my 'safe' apartment. He nodded when I showed him. I was about to walk past him when he noticed blood crusted on the side of my neck.

"Are you okay, love?" He asked with care in his tone. I nodded and shook his grip off of me. I couldn't and didn't want to talk about it. I would come off as crazy.

"I am fine, now I have to go," I told him, harshly. I felt guilty when I hurt the old mans feelings, but I walked into the lobby. It didn't matter to me that people gave me weird looks as they passed me. I went right to the elevators.

I pressed the up button, and waited for the elevator to come down to me. It didn't take long. When the doors open there was no one in there, but a left coat. I get inside and the doors shut behind me. Once they had closed I pressed the number sixteen. I was on the last floor.

I looked as the electronic screen told me which floor I was on. I was barely on the 3rd one. This was going to be a long ride. At least I am safe, or so I thought.

I looked down at the coat on the floor to admire it. It was black and simple. It looked to be a trench coat. It seemed really familiar. It might have been someone that lived here before. However, once I looked at it closely I saw the fabric starting to move. Maybe it was from the lack of blood that I thought I saw it move. I rubbed my eyes with the back of my hands and leaned against the wall, but my eyes were still locked on the coat.

I bent down to pick it up after a few minutes. But once I touched the coat I heard a ear wrenching scream and I touched something that resembled fingers underneath it. I slowly removed it. I was surprised to see what I found.

There was a hole in the floor, and a girl hung on for dear life from its edge."Help me!" Her voiced begged.

"Hold on!" I said as pulled my hair into a ponytail and got down on both of my knees. Once I did that I could see her face better. She had black hair and was tan with blue eyes. I grabbed onto her hand and tried to pull her up.
