"Maze, you have been born for this. You're a woman!" Maze's mother tried to get through to her daughter. "You have to marry so that you can have a good life!"
Her mother put food in front of her.
"Mum, please! Don't make me!" Tears started running down Maze's cheeks.
"Listen child. You will marry as highest as we can afford and then you will be happy. Away from this. You'll have many children and you will be happy. Eat and sleep now. We travel tomorrow and the road is dangerous." Maze's mother left her by the table and she went to her room.Maze was a 17 year old girl, living in a small working village in a kingdom at war. Her father died fighting the invaders two years ago and the honour pay was long gone. Maze's mother decided that marrying her off was the best way to save them both. The barbarians were scouting closer to the village, killing the sheep and cows. They burn all the villages and towns on their way.
Maze ate reluctantly as the thought of marriage was turning her stomach.
She sat by the burning fire that was slowly dying out and she begged the gods she didn't have to marry.
Once the last little flame died, burning her hopes. She went to her room and laid on her bed.
In the morning maze was still getting ready when her mother ran in and told her to hide. Maze didn't even have the time to react when a soldier run in and had her and her mother cornered. Maze's mother tried to throw knifes at him, pans.. pointless efforts. He came closer and drew his sword through Galia's stomach. "Run child!" Maze's mother screamed with the last effort. Maze started running but when she run out of her house, she was met with pure horror. Her village was on fire. People were running for their lives, trampled by the soldiers horses or stuck with swords. She started running but a soldier grabbed her and threw her into the mud. He tried to climb on top of her but she found a rock in the deep puddle and she used it to hit his head. He fell to the side. "You little whore! I'll kill you!" He shouted as she got up and run for her life. Trying to get to the tree line. Another soldier grabbed her and hit her across her face with enough force for her to lose her consciousness. The last thing she heard and saw was a man walking towards her. "She's mine." He said. After that, everything was dark and all the noise was gone.
