Chapter 1
[Josie's POV]
I sat in the music classroom, ignoring the Professor as he rambled on about different holiday songs and how they came into fruition. I sighed. After this class... I'm going to have to go back out there.
The lonely truth.
My phone buzzed. I looked down, and chuckled. What else would I expect? The only texts I get are from Jon, back in New York. It's not like I have any other friends.
He sent me, 'Hey Josie :) What's up?'
"Just listening to a boring lecture about the origins of holiday music, what about you?" I texted back, hiding my phone under my chair.
'Taking a break from WiFi battling, maybe gonna Skype some friends later.' He sent almost immediately following it with 'I'm bored XD'
"Saaaaaame" I sent back, smiling to myself. "So how's Sarah?"
'She's doing well :)'
"Good :D" I sent, glancing at the professor to make sure he didn't notice me. Fortunately, he didn't.
'Are you going to be okay for the holidays?' I received a few moments later.
"What do you mean?" I asked him.
'Y'know, you have no one to spend it with, and... you've never been the same during the holiday season since..."
I didn't bother to finish reading that message. I knew all to well that it would say. No, obviously I'm not okay, but I don't want to worry JON! I sighed, shooting him one last message.
"Don't worry about me, I'll be fine. Anyway I got to go, I think the professor caught on to me :) ttyl"
And with that, the bell rang.
Great.
[Jon's POV]
((Just letting you guys know, Jonathan is ShadyPenguinn's real name, in case you were unaware.))
I sighed, putting my phone down. I've been worried about Josie ever since she moved out to Orlando for school. I shrugged. I mean, she said not to worry... But...
I heard my computer make a noise, and I realised someone was Skyping me. After a few clicks, I find that it's Nate (and I can only assume Hunter or someone.)
"Hey!" I greeted, answering the Skype call.
"Aeyyyyyyy Dog!" Nate greeted. I chuckled quietly. "Is anyone joining us in this call?" I asked.
"Nope! Just good ol' me!" Nate made a childish face. "Ah." I simply responded, my mind in other places.
"... dude, are you okay? You don't sound like yourself. I'm here for you if you want to talk." Nate offered, his face creased with concern.
"U-uh, no, I-I'm fine I guess."
"You don't sound so sure. C'mon Shady, you can trust me! What's on your mind?" Nate pleaded. I sighed. I DID need someone to talk to, I needed to get this off my chest.
"I have an old friend, I've known her since kindergarten. Her name is Josie, and, well... a few years ago, something terrible happened to her on Christmas Eve, and she's never been the same during the holiday season. She usually gets depressed, although she's always tried to hide it from me. I'm just- I'm really worried." I ruffled my hair, almost out of habit.
"Well, why don't you visit her?" Nate suggested.
"I wish I could, but she moved down to Orlando for college. But, I'm spending Christmas with both my family and Sarah's, I don't have time to fly down and back." I replied, regret in my voice.
"Wait- Orlando?" Nate asked. "Yeeeeeah..." I responded, unsure of what he meant.
"Dude, if you're really worried about her, I can check on her. I'd just need to re-schedule my recording schedule to accommodate the day off." He explained.
My eyes went wide. "Really?!"
Nate nodded, smiling. "Of course man!"
"Nate, thank you. You don't know how much this means to me." A single tear fell into my cheek.
"C'mon now, Shady, don't go feelsies on me." Nate teased.
I shook my head, wiping the tear away. "Anyway, want to record?" I asked.
