Sam's POV
At exactly 6:10am my alarm goes off.
"Gosh!" I quickly turn it off but stay in bed.
My bed gets so comfy in the morning. I try to close my eyes again but I jolt awake when I hear her yell
"Sam you better get down here right this instant if you do not want me to come up there and spank you!" my mum shouts.
How can her voice be that loud this early in the morning. I really wanted to ignore her and sprawl across the bed but immediately decide against it else she will go through with her threat.
I quickly enter the bathroom to wash up. While in the bathroom, my mind drifts to my dad leaving us, my eyes starts to get wet and I blink a few times to stop the tears from flowing without permission.
When I emerge from the bathroom, I decide to go with my plait skirt and a top to avoid embarrassment from my mum. I run a comb through my curly brown hair to make it look presentable enough. I glance at the mirror, my hazel eyes dully stares back at me, I huff and leave the room.
I carefully walk down the stairs and see my dad seated on the dinning table with a copy of today's newspaper in his hands and my mum putting his pancakes in a plate in front of him. Her blonde hair is tied up in a perfect bun on her head even though she has been cooking. She looks up and finally notices my presence. She gives me her award winning smile which I return.
"how was your night my dear?" she asks
"it was great mum" I lie and she nods.
I head towards my dad and give him a peck on his cheeks and he smiles at me, his pearly whites showing off. Nobody knows how much am gonna miss him not being around, he promised to be coming in for the holidays but that's not enough for me.
I gently grab two pancakes from the little bowl in the middle of the table and sit down. My dad drops the paper on the table and looks at me keenly."Sam"
"yes Dad" I answer
"baby am really sorry I didn't tell you earlier about my new job at Seattle" he says with his eyes full of emotion
"it's okay dad, I understand. You don't have to explain" I try to convince myself that it's fine but really I know it's not, one bit.
"Just have it in mind that I love you and your sister so much I will do anything to make my family live a comfortable life okay?" he says while holding my hand that was on the table.
"okay, dad. Thank you and you know we love you too" I reply, meaning every word this time.
His features lighten as he smiles, that is why I love my dad, he always makes me understand him and he understands me in return. My mum sits next to my dad as we eat our breakfast.

We arrive the airport at exactly 10:00am in my mom's CRV. As we approach the longue, a voice from the speaker announces that the flight for Seattle will be boarding shortly.
"Sweetheart, don't forget to continue to be diligent in the Lord's work. Remember God rewards and blesses those who practice His teachings . Also, continue to be a good mum to our kids." My dad says to my mum.
"Of course honey, I will. I called Alexa this morning and she was unhappy she couldn't make it." She replies.
Alexa is my elder sister who is in college two towns away from us majoring in Medicine and Surgery. She has always been the golden daughter of the family with straight A's and good conduct.
Most times, I envy her cause my mum does not scold her like she scolds me. My mum has always wanted me to be like her in every aspect. I love my sister no doubt but I can't be exactly like her.
"Dad" I look at him, my eyes watering. I think he notices that and his face shows full concern
"Am really sorry baby" he coos pulling me into a hug, I quickly return the hug while sobbing into his chest.
"I am so sorry I won't be here for your highschool graduation next weekend. I wish I could do something about it Sam but you know it's beyond my power" he consoles me while rubbing circles into my back.
I pull away from the hug and give him a smile.
"It's okay Dad, I'll really miss having you around" I confess
"Don't worry sweetie, I'll be back during holidays, promise" he raises his pinky finger and wiggles it around my face and I laugh.
"Okay, bye Dad".
My mum and I wave simultaneously until he is out of sight.
