It was a week later before we heard from Chief Sandongsky again. I was sitting on the couch, playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare Seventy-five when my chip alerted me to an incoming call from the chief, I switched programs and answered, "Hey Chief."
"Hey Ralim, how've you been?" answered Chief Sandongsky.
"Not bad, you?" I said.
"Fairly well. Listen, I've got the papers all fixed up and ready for you and Amanda to go over; when do you think you and her came come over to the station and view them?" asked the Chief, getting right to the point.
"Well...." I said, not entirely sure, "tomorrow afternoon? I'll have to find out if it's a good time for Amanda when she gets home." I said.
"That's perfect, say five o'clock?" asked Sandongsky.
"Sure, I'll just mark it on my calendar." I said, pulling up my scheduler and setting up an alarm to remind me. "If it isn't good for Amanda I'll shoot you a message, otherwise assume that it's on."
"Okay Ralim, I'll be ready. See you tomorrow!" said the Chief enthusiastically.
"See you tomorrow, bye." I said before hanging up. Sweet, by the end of tomorrow I'd be employed for a massive salary doing what I enjoyed most; beating other hackers at their own game.
Just then Amanda came in the door. "Hey Ralim, how ere your classes today?" she asked brightly.
"Alright I suppose, all of the kids were claiming that they had strange messages flashing across their chips that were keeping them from studying. The teachers didn't believe it until they began to have the same issues. They decided to let class out early to call in tech experts to find out what was wrong with the system." I said giggling.
"Ra-lim," Amanda said, "that's not nice, you shouldn't be doing that to your classmates and teachers." I could tell that she thought it was funny though, the smile spreading across her face gave her away.
"It's funny though." I said, laughing aloud.
Amanda chuckled at me, "Yes, I suppose it is. If school let out early, what have you been doing this whole afternoon?"
"I challenged myself to find the file the government has on me." I told her, unsure of what her reaction would be.
"Ralim, you shouldn't do that! You could get caught!" she exclaimed.
"It was actually surprisingly easy, with the low level of security that they have, I could have dug right into the data banks for the military to find out what our troops were doing and no one would ever know that I had." I reassured her.
"Yeah," said Amanda, still not entirely okay with it, "but you could have been caught and ended up at the station talking to Sandongsky."
"Amanda, I'm careful, here, I'll connect our chips through the net and I'll dive back in, we'll find your file and then you'll see how easy it was." I offered, half joking.
"Hell no! I'm not doing that!" said Amanda in a frightened tone.
"Joking, joking." I said quickly, "Chief Sandongsky called me about half an hour ago." I didn't continue, instead I left the bait there.
Amanda bit, "What did he want?" she asked a bit warily.
"He wanted to let me know that he had all of my employment papers in order and wanted to know if we could make it to the station tomorrow at five." I told her.
"It sure didn't take him long, did it." said Amanda sounding exhausted with the whole thing, "You can tell him we'll be there."
"Already did. I said that unless I called back, we'd be there."
