“They say that viruses are not living things and this was agreed by everyone in the scientific community. They are the border line between complex organic molecules and cells. They live through infecting their host cells, and sometimes they insert some of their DNA sequences inside our cells which gradually changes just about 0.00004% of our total genome.”
That was our professor discussing General Virology who is very serious teaching his boring course.
After listening to some of his lecture, I suddenly shifted my attention to the falling leaves of the tree outside our classroom.
“It's already windy.” I said softly as I smiled and closed my eyes for a moment.
I'm studying Infectious Diseases as a prerequisite to my specialty training because I just love how medicine works especially now that Medical Technology became rapidly advance. After the Blind Light Virus-Higher Neurological Modification Disorder pandemic, medical science researches have become widespread. Simple diseases can now be easily cured.
In our world, Specialty training is a mandatory, 6-year program that aims to improve our specialties, or should I say, our supernatural abilities.
For example, if you have any healing and allied medical abilities, you need to undergo medical training as your prerequisite.
Our education system became a bit different to the previous era. Since we undergo 10 years of basic education, which includes 5 years of primary education and 5 years of middle school while high school was abolished and became a Preparatory Program or the Prerequisite Program.
To survive, I need to lie about my status as a survivor since I am an uninfected human. I am already thankful to my Dad who is a survivor for helping me gain status in the society. Without him, I don't really know what to do. After my mom died when I was in 10th grade, I tested negative for special antibodies, a blood test to know whether you have any specialty or not.
Thinking about those few things I have in mind, I felt a slight pain from a small object that hit my forehead.
That slight pain made me put my hand on my forehead and unknowingly gazes around the classroom to know what hit me.
After several glances to the floor, I saw a white chalk.
I suddenly felt nervous knowing that it was my professor who throw it at me.
I slowly turned to face him while stealing several glances to my silent classmates who were also shocked to what our professor did.
Holy cow! Now all of their attention are on me.
I looked down as a sign of guilt.
“S-sir, I'm sorry.” I said as I felt my whole body trembling because of their indifferent gazes.
After I said those words, the classroom was filled with an overwhelming silence. I felt his presence as he slowly walked towards where I am currently sitting. Then, he automatically stopped as he arrived close to where I am currently trembling and looking down at the floor as all my sweat became my own water bath.
“Mr. Kailero” I can feel the authority in his words. He waited for my response, but I was still too scared to reply him. I don't know what will he do next, I'm scared that he might use his specialty to a normal person like me. I am just bad at talking to people.
He slowly drew his face near me and the next thing he said, has opened my inner curiosity of my own future.
“I see a complicated but meaningful future ahead of you. The stars, the morning light, the moon, and the sun are happy.”
