Saving StrawHat Luffy

I will save you Ace!
You are my only brother Ace!

A little away from the battle in his little submarine, Law stirred a little upon hearing that.
Fire Fist was StrawHat's brother? He was surprised. He watched as that rubber kid struggled to get to the platform. He saw the helplessness in the eyes of Fire Fist who seemed to have resigned to his fate and only wanted to save his brother from same. He saw him screaming hoarse asking Luffy to stop, to go back, but in vain. Luffy did not stop. Of course he didn't. He couldn't. Law understood that a little more than others. He knew what loosing someone meant. Before he even realized it Law found himself rooting for StrawHat. It seemed impossible but may be he can? May be he can save his brother. May be he was stronger than Law who couldn't save his sister, his family, his friends and then.. Cora San. He saw them getting off the platform and he almost cheered. Well he smiled. That was enough to creep Beepo out who was already finding the difference in Law's attitude quiet alarming.

But then..

He saw Ace take the blow for Luffy. He felt the air in lungs freeze. He couldn't believe it. 'Not again' he gasped, gripping the railing a little harder. A sting in his eyes made him realize he was, infact, crying as he watched FireFist Ace die in his brother's hands. The smile on his lips, the light fading from his eyes reminded him of someone. 'Cora-San' Law whsipered bowing his head, tears still silently running down his face .

Luffy's scream brought him out of his thoughts. 'Stawhat!' Law's eyes searched for him. He had to save him. He had to protect him, he couldn't save his sister, he couldn't save his family, he couldn't save Cora-San but he'll be damned if he doesn't save this kid. Being a doctor, a surgeon, Law knew how serious Luffy's injuries were. Even if the others managed to take him away from battle Luffy won't be able to survive unless they can get him the treatment he needed. Law curled his fists. But he can. He can save him. He WILL save him. StrawHat Luffy must live! And with that he shouted orders to his crew to sail towards the coast.

When Luffy woke up and screamed in pain that had nothing to do with his body, Law felt that scream resonate in his soul. He felt it opening old wounds inside of him . Pain of losing someone you loved. Even more, losing someone who loved you unconditionally. Law knew it well. No matter how much he wanted to comfort the teenaged captain, to tell him it would be alright, he knew his words were empty.  Luffy  needed to find the reason to live on his own, just like Law did 11 years ago.

He breathed a sigh of relief when Luffy decided to overcome his pain, for his Nakama. However that day Trafalgar Law also made a decision. The day Monkey D Luffy decided to live, Trafalgar D Water Law decided to die. The plan he had worked on for 11 years needed to be set in motion. Dolflamingo must die now, even if it cost him his life.

Over the years Law gave many reasons to different people to explain what seemed to be a pretty impulsive and frankly stupid and irrational decision. To save the kid who raided the Marineford! Specially since Law needed World Government and Navy on his side for his plan to work.  He would say that he knew that a person as strong as StrawHat owing him a life debt was a trump card in his sleeve. He will tell them it was for sake of 'D' that he helped him. He will even argue it was his act of rebellion against the world, he was after all a pirate. 

The reason Law gave himself was he saved Luffy because world needed people like him. Who would not hesitate to risk their lives to save the ones they love. People like Cora san.

Truth was Law had saved Luffy so he could die knowing that even though he couldn't save  Cora-San, he did save someone as big-hearted and pure and he hoped that may be that will make him brave enough to embrace death when the time comes.

He will entrust the will of D to StrawHat. He will die knowing that  somewhere the Will of D must be wrecking up a storm and may be with that knowledge he could die with a smile on his face like Cora san and FireFist Ace.
