The doctor felt something bump his chair. He turned around to see Marvin, a scraggly magican with dark brown hair, holding out his hands and making dots of light fly between them. He had kicked the doctor's chair.

"Hey, Marv." Schneep closed his notes and stood up with a soft grunt. "How'd you get out of your room?"

Marvin didn't answer. He brought the light closer.

Schneep sighed, exasperated, but smiled nonetheless. "Ok...ok...what do you want to show me?"

Marvin brought the light closer. A small butterfly made of bright light fluttered between his hands.

"That's cute." Schneep said. He stood up and carefully closed Marvin's hands, making the butterfly dissapear.

Marvin pouted, looking down at the doctor, who was a lot shorter than him.

Schneep held Marvin's hands shut, carefully leading him back down the sterile white halls, back to the magican's room.

Marvin huffed, but went back in and sat on the light blue bed. The tables and chairs around him we're covered in odd pieces of clothing and various shiny objects, all brought to him by local street cats and ravens. Why they did, Schneep still wasn't sure. No one at the facility was.

Marvin's favorite possession was a plastic cat mask with the playing card suits on its forehead, drawn with permanent marker. The nose and whiskers were bright red, also colored and drawn with marker.

Schneep settled Marvin back into the bed, putting the heartbeat and blood pressure monitors back on Marvin's arm and finger respectively.

Just as Schneep was about to leave, the door slammed closed on its own. The windows closed as well, their curtains dropping down and stiffening like concrete.

"Marvin..." Schneep said in an exasperated tone. "You know you can't use your magic like this. You'll strain yourself."

Marvin huffed and yanked the monitors off, standing up and backing Schneep into the corner.

"Fuck-" Schneep grabbed the taser from his pocket, pressing it to Marvin's stomach, but hesitating to press the button.

Marvin stood there, looking back and forth from the doctor to the taser.

A bright red scarf flew from a nearby chair, wrapping itself tight around Schneep, making him drop the taser and lean back against the wall.

Schneep tried to yell for help, but the other staff didn't seem to hear him. They were probably too far away.

The magican huffed and growled, his eyes going in and out of focus.

"Marvin...calm down..." Schneep strained against the scarf, but it wrapped tighter around him like a hungry python.

"No...more....tests...." Marvin growled. "No...more...hurt. I tried....to give you gifts....but you still.....TEST ON ME!" Marvin raised his raspy voice, making his eyes glow, and fill with tears.

"I'm not in charge of tests...I'm just a doctor here I don't organize the tests, please..."

"Find a way....to stop the tests...." Marvin grabbed the taser from the floor and placed it on a shelf, way out of Schneep's reach.

Schneep gulped. "I can't promise anything...but I'll try...." He didn't quite know whether or not he was lying.

Marvin growled again, and placed a calloused hand on Schneep's cheek. A burst of white light flew from his hand, soaking into Schneep's skin. The doctor felt a prickly warmth spread throughout his body.

"You will try...." Marvin removed his hand, which was smoking slightly. "Or you will die..."

The scarf released its grip on the doctor and fluttered to the floor, lifeless, like it was supposed to be.

The door opened a little, and the curtains slackened.
