Paul Revere's Ride
By Rosa Mordak Alexis Lee Areno Sris Chatwin -
The night is dark and made worse still by the fog that seems to cover the earth. The ship I stand shaking upon glides silantly through the water. A phantom ship, a hulk of black, shadow reflecting off the water it seems magnified to larger than life. I wrap my jacket around me tighter to keep away the cool chill of the night.
At least we are almost there, I keep telling myself. The place we have been ordered to amboush, all those unsuspecting people in the night. Maybe this will be the final fight! We may even win this one! I hope so.
I hear a slight rufling of feet to my left, turning I lock eyes with another soldier. His fair hair cropped to short to wave in the breeze. In the dark his eyes looked black reflecting his soul inside.
"This is it!" I say. Exited as I am still I can't stop myself from shaking. With the cold it is easy to fool those who know no better.
"I can't wait to get out there! To see how many of those ungratefull American nitwits I can get!" the other soldier said after a while, with a little more enthoseasm than neseasory, and a heavy Scotish acsent. I can't spell very well and that is about my only problem other than the fact that I'm not very good at puctuation.
"I c-can! My b-best friend from s-school in B-britian is an American now!" I gush as fast as I can, studdering from the cold.
My friend and I had met many years before at an English acadomy in Wales. I was a new student and didn't know all the rules or regulations. Running through the hall one day I was tripped by some red haird kid around a cornner.
"Watch it! Theres no running in the hall." he says all sneaky like. less than one minate later a teacher walks around another corner down the hall a ways.
"Get to class kids!" the teacher said "It's a good thing you weren't running otherwise I would have had to send you to the prinsipal." she added as if an after thought.
"Yes m'am!" I say as we rushed past her in the direction of our classes. "Thanks! you really saved my skin." I wispered after we were out of earshot.
"No problem, but don't expect it to happen again."
"Gotcha"
After that we had becume good friends and spent lots of time with each other at school and away.
"Really?" the other British soldeir asks without much compation."Must suck to be you."
"Yeah, not looking forward to this at all." looking out to the distance over the river I think I see a slight twinkle, then it brightens as though a lantern is being lit from inside the Belfry tower over yonder. Although it is not very likely becouse everyone is sound asleep in there weak colonist beds they pretend are real. All but us, the British solders sent on a pathetic mission to deffete the Americans in there defensles sleeping figures.
"Ta an fear aga' rith!" He snickers switching to his native language. "Yes, the man runs!" Running toward the capitan he trips over a coild rope on the deck of the ship.
On the opposite shore, than I saw the gleaming light, a hourse and rider take off running toward the towns we are to amboush.
startled I step back, only to trip as well, and fall over the railling into the freezing cold water. To shocked by the frightening cold of the liquid ice to breath, I swim in any direction not knowing if I am going up to life or down to death. I start loosing my breath a little at a time I'm not going to make it to the surface, I'm not going to see my friends or family ever again... Good-bye.
