On April 14, 2027 at 12:00p.m., we landed on Ol'im Island. As soon as we landed, I noticed the breeze, it smelled of flowers. The scent caused me to drift away from reality, it felt like clouds carrying me toward fields of flowers. The fields were bathed in a plethora of color and swayed in the light breeze. The cloud laid me down into a warm stream, I could feel the water all around me, hear it. It relaxed my muscles, and I exhaled built up pressure from day to day activities and let myself flow downstream. However, all good things must come to an end.
My momentary euphoria was suddenly interrupted because of her whining, "Tay, come on, I'm hungry!"
I was tempted to make a quip in response
like I usually do, but I was extremely tired and hungry as well. My glasses were hanging nearly off my nose, I pushed them up. I turned my head to the right only to realize there was no field of flowers, but instead flowers planted in allocated spots around a fountain. I had a feeling I would spend a lot of time there writing or drawing, maybe even try painting?"Fine, I was just stopping to smell the flowers."
Quincey, the fun-loving, funny, and currently hangry girl that was my high school best friend, was the one to accompany me on my flight to Ol'im Island. She decided to go to college with me here. I couldn't blame her for her decision, it was beautiful here, and there wasn't anything better back home. However, even though it was beautiful, I wasn't very happy about the reason I was going to this college. I was forced to go after all. Although, I was happy to at least have someone there with me.
After we graduated, we kind of fell out of touch and didn't talk for a year. However, since it had only been a year, it wasn't too hard to make up for lost time.
We caught up with each other on what had been going on in our lives up to that point as we walked to the nearest restaurant. I skipped on a few major details of my life in the past year. I would tell her eventually, just not now. Us living in the same area and going to the same college would inevitably bring us closer together, which was a good thing.
Ezra, my best friend for life even though we never went to the same school, took the flight after ours because there was a problem with her ticket, but it was resolved quickly by the airport. However, she still had to wait for the next flight, which would be an hour later. That made her arrive about 5 hours later than she would have if she was able to come with us.
Since we were all great friends before we all stopped talking for a year because we were busy, after she got here Ezra and Quinn also rekindled their relationship quickly.
We would all be living in the same apartment as roommates. It was an extremely new building, so no one else was currently living there.
However, Ezra wasn't alone. In fact, two others came that were very familiar to me and Quinn, but Ezra didn't know them. It was Dylan and Pierce.
Quinn and Dylan were in the same friend group, with me as well, during high school. They both eventually wound up dating when Quinn was a freshman and he a sophomore. However, Quincey and Dylan eventually had a peaceful breakup. They broke up shortly after Quinn's junior year for "private reasons," and neither would tell me what happened. That didn't help with my never-ending curiosity and constant need to know what was going on with the people I cared about.
I remembered the secret because I keep a journal of things I am curious about after trying and failing to figure it out. It may seem immature of me to not respect their boundaries. It is extremely immature, but curiosity killed the cat and I'm the one who will die trying to satisfy it. The one sentence to sum up my life.
Then, there was Pierce. When our eyes met I felt a mixture of resentment and sadness erupting like a volcano inside of me. I couldn't speak.
"Why are you here?!" He stammered.
"Pierce!" Jarek exclaimed.
I couldn't move anything. I wanted to run.
Ezra stepped in front of me and quipped, "Well why do you care?"
Quinn opened her mouth to say something, shut it again, then stated, "This is Pierce. Tayla's ex."
I tensed, but because Ezra seemed to be defending me, I could actually speak. I put on a front, so he wouldn't know how I felt.
"That's none of your business, Pierce. If you will excuse us, we're going to leave."
"Bye Jarek! Maybe catch up later?" Quinn inquired while turning to leave.
"Sure!" Jarek
As we walked away, I was still having an adrenaline rush. I started to calm down.
Quinn exclaimed in an ironically cheery voice, "Welp, that was a great start to our time here!"
Ezra laughed, I couldn't really help smiling.
