The bride's house was full of chaos. The whole house was full of people, promising a typical Indian wedding with a big baarat. Random aunties were shouting orders on the poor interns of "Happy weddings" and some old lady was talking endlessly about her marriage chronicles and about 3-4 divorced ladies were listening to her stories because they honestly didn't know what to do. Some old dudes and young dudes were talking about the snacks the had for breakfast. Siya's parents were on the verge of crying, as they made sure everything was perfect for their only daughter's wedding day. The whole house was decorated beautifully with bright colours and flowers.
In the bride's room, Siya sat on the chair in front of the mirror. She sipped on her Nimboo Paani as the makeup artist was scolding her assistant because she didn't bring the right shade of lipsticks and how this was going to cause her disgrace in the wedding world and how was she going to face the bride and her wrath but honestly Siya couldn't care less about which shade was going to look better on her lips and which bindi will do wonders for her lehenga. She was too tired of all the different wedding rituals that were taking place since the early morning and now she was done for good with the fuss about whole wedding. It looked like whole world was freaking out about her own wedding rather than herself.
She was actually really calm about the whole situation. Finally her saviour came in the form of her cousin, Krisha. She made sure the makeup artist would stop her scolding sessions and will just work with whatever they had. Siya was watching all of this through the mirror, a smile on her face as her big sister solved all her problems, even before she could ask for help. She looked at her reflection in the mirror. Her hair was up in a beautiful updo with flowers weaved in the same color of her dress. She specifically asked for a light makeup, rather than the heavy makeup look most brides preferred for their wedding day. The only thing that made her feel like a new bride was her pink Sabyasachi lehenga that she got custom made, hello perks of marrying a famous cricketer. The jewellery was kept to minimum, and she remembered the time she went shopping with her mother in law for her wedding jewellery. Her mother in law and her own mother wanted her to dress up like Jodha bai wearing the heavy jewellery. It was noting near to the look Siya was aiming for. Her sister in law probably saw the horrified look in her eyes when she saw herself in the mirror as they kept adding layers and layers of necklaces. She kindly pointed out that perhaps people should actually ask Siya what she wanted to wear on her wedding day. Siya was more than thankful to her bhabhi for that day.
Now looking at herself, fully transformed into a bride she couldn't help but laugh thinking about both of her mother's faces as they saw what Siya had actually chosen for her wedding day. Krisha was the last person to leave the room as she told her she'll send her mom and dad upstairs before they left the house for the wedding venue. When she was alone only then she realised it. This was probably the last time she was spending in her room, her home. Memories came flooding as she remembered her good and bad times spent in the house. Every corner, every thing held a special memory, a special story. She looked at the framed picture of her mom and dad and her younger self. She gently placed her hand on the photo, trying to hold back her tears. It was just a house, but her mom and dad made it a home. She was going to miss them more than anything.
She heard faint footsteps. Her mom and dad. They were smiling at each other as they entered the room and stopped in their tracks. Siya stood their, in her beautiful lehenga smiling at them. They couldn't hold back their tears as they saw their little girl all dressed up for her wedding day. They hugged their little girl as the moment was not long before she was going to leave them forever. Siya closed her eyes as she hugged both her parents thinking she would not cry now. She knew marrying Virat was not going to be an easy ride. She knew that he didn't love her, she knew that he loved someone else, she knew that he was probably not happy about this marriage either. All of those things were hurting her already but she had promised that she won't let it get to her. She won't give it power over her and she will never cry about it, ever. She was never the the type that cries yet she felt a tear roll down her cheek, and thought that leaving her loving mom and dad was worth the crying.
Aloat was happening at the moment, the make up artist was called again to fix Siya's eye makeup, her dad was asking the driver to start the car, her mom was fixing her dupatta for the last time before they left the room. Both her parents held her hands and gave her a smile before the led her through the door, one last time.
