INVITED TO LIGHTS OUT. i re-read the message, not believing what i saw. i pinched myself to make sure i wasn't dreaming. nope, it was all reality. there, in black font, was my official invitation to the biggest tiktok tour yet. how in the world did i go from 0 followers to 900k in three months... and this? wow.

i quickly ran downstairs to announce the good news to the entire household. my younger sister squealed in shock and hugged me, while my parents were watching with smiles on their faces. 

- does that mean i can go? - i asked, noticing their overwhelmingly positive reaction.

- well honey, i think you should. just promise us you'll stay careful. and of course, have fun! - replied my mom.

- thank you so much! - i responded, already running towards my phone to give them a reply.

so it was official. on december 15, 2020, i would be joining the most popular tiktokers as well as some of my online friends. this app was seriously a life-changer. this sounds like an exaggeration, but my real life wasn't that great. i only had a couple of friends, i was kind of a loner at school and i cried... often. today, though, i could put all of that behind me and start the road to my new life. only 20 days until the tour starts! with an enormous smile on my face, i reached for my phone and selected a picture to post on instagram.

i smiled again, taking in all the positivity in the online world. i fell asleep to the sound of my phone buzzing constantly. so annoying to most, but so meaningful to me.

the next morning, i woke up at 6 am, still thinking about the tour. but then, reality hit me. i'd have to go to school again. honestly, i was so nervous about everyone's reactions. despite me being pretty known on social media, i was definitely not popular and i had a lot of social anxiety. i took a deep breath, looked at myself in the mirror and stretched my lips into a smile. 'it will be okay', i thought. i picked a cute outfit that i felt confident in - i'd definitely be needing that today.

a quick bus ride later, i arrived at the big, white building that was my school. i breathed in, straightened my back and walked in. i reached my locker and bent down to open it when i felt a tap on my back. i turned around to see a group of boys that, i'm pretty sure, hated me.

'hey tiktok girl!' one of them said, sarcastically.

i turned around, rolling my eyes and trying my best to ignore them.

'what's the matter? star doesn't want to talk to her fans?' the other replied.

i quickly took my books out of my locker, whispered 'fuck you' and ran to my first class. i sat, alone, at my desk, waiting for the only friend i had in math to come. she didn't. oh well. 20 days until the best two weeks of my life begin.
