I woke up this morning to the raucous sound of a cat meowing. I sat up on my bed and I saw my calico cat, Louise sitting impatiently at my feet.

We just adopted her last month because my brother, Evan got a life and moved out, so my single mother thought it would be best if we got at cat to fill the gap. My father lives out in the city with my little sister, Hayden who is now 14 years old.

But it doesn't even seem like we even have a cat. Our cat sleeps all day, and when she's not napping, she's outside hunting mice and birds. Maybe that's what all cats do... What a boring companion.

I stood up as Louise rubbed against my ankles. What do you want? I wondered. She's the one who woke me up, and I was not willing to wake up at 6 in the morning on a Saturday. She better have a good reason for this.

I followed her into the kitchen, as she led me to an empty bowl on the floor in which we feed her food. She sat down next to it and let out a soft meow. "Ughh." I opened a can of cat food and plopped the utterly smelly contents into her bowl. "There. You got your food. Now eat and leave me alone." I said as if cats can understand human language. She glared at her food for a moment before she started eating it with her tiny little cat mouth.

I walked back to my room but just before I could slam my door shut, Louise was peeking into my room, half her lumpy body out the door.

"What do you want, stupid cat?" Louise just meowed.

She led me back down to the kitchen and this time, sat down next to the other side of the bowl, where our refrigerator was. "Yes, Louise, your food is from the fridge." I started walking towards the stairs but her desperate little voice stopped me in my tracks. I looked at her as she sat there. Waiting. "What do you want, cat? I can't read your mind! I gave you what you wanted, now let me be!" As if she got it, she turned around and disappeared behind the fridge. All that was visible was her black and orange tail.

I marched back up to my room and went back to bed. I closed the door so Louise can no longer bother me with her nonsense. Cats are so strange.
Or is it only my cat...

And with that thought, I fell asleep.

Such a short chapter. But now you met Evelyn and her crazy cat Louise!
