Kageyama Tobio fell in love many times, but he never told the people he loved that he did. He never did because they loved someone else, and that someone else loved them back.

Many believed he only ever cared about volleyball, but that couldn't be further from the truth. He had always dreamt of love after his sister had read old romance novels and shoujou manga with him.

The first time he fell in love was when he met Oikawa Tooru, his bright, intelligent, kind and talented senpai.

He'd been head over heels for him, and determined to get closer, he asked him to teach him how to serve everyday, hoping and praying that he'd accept and grow to love him.

Instead, Oikawa had turned the cold shoulder towards him, refusing to help and growing more and more distant, day by day. Yet he continued persisting, telling himself every night that he'd get the chance.

But he lost hope when Oikawa had nearly smacked his face. The only person who stopped him was Iwaizumi, and as Kageyama rushed away, he knew he stood no chance.

At the end of his first year in middle school, he realized that no matter how much he tried, Oikawa had been in love with Iwaizumi, and there was no space for him to interfere, no possibility of him having a chance.

'Thats okay,' he told himself. It was only the first love, and he was young. He'd find the one for him someday.

That was the first time somebody had taken a shard of his heart.

In his second and third year of middle school, Tobio fell in love with Kindaichi Yuutarou. This time, he felt sure that he could do it. Instead of being innocent and weak like he was before, he'd be strong and bold.

Instead, he got abandoned, heartbroken and hurt by Kindaichi, who cruelly turned his back on him during that match.

He was messed up for months, and at the end of his middle school years, he sat in the volleyball team's gym alone on the day of his graduation, staring at the floor.

He had stood no chance this time because Kindaichi was in love with Kunimi, someone who could be seen as calm and tame.

Frustrated, he sobbed alone in the gym, realizing no matter how much he tried to play the part, no one would fall in love with him, and he grew to have a temper.

He had lost another fragment of his heart.

As he moved on to highschool, he remembered that boy he met with the orange hair, and he found him again at Karasuno, the school he had chosen.

And thus began his third love. The bright ball of sunshine always encouraged him, always shined with him, and always talked about how they were the greatest duo to exist.

Tobio felt overjoyed, knowing that it was finally happening. He had finally found his one true love.

But life doesn't give you what you want, and the moment Hinata Shouyou met Kozume Kenma, his dreams were shattered again.

Hinata never texted him anymore, he only ever spoke about Kenma, and they started going out soon afterwards. When the little tangerine announced this, Tobio congratulated him and acted as though he couldn't care less, but really, he was hurting, he really was.

Another shard gone.

Then came his fourth love, Tsukishima. It's weird, isn't it? He hated Tsukishima, but suddenly Kei saw right through his front and comforted him.

They grew close, and though they still acted like they hated each other, they had their moments. And here, the love Kageyama felt blossomed. Maybe he'd found the one.
