Before I begin this chapter, I just want you all to know that in keeping with the Never The Black Girl plot, I will not be telling you how old Anna and Aaron are. Simply because I don’t want them to be too old and for the stories not to make sense together. Just know that in this book, Lionel has not met Tabitha yet, and they’re all younger by a couple years.
Some years had passed since Anna had gotten in trouble at her private high school. Since then, she had resolved to have fun, despite rules and regulations. She had gotten a job in Vegas, bartending. She bought an apartment, moved out of her parent’s house, and was enjoying living her life day by day.
“Hey, Ann. Bus table 3 please.” Her co-worker asked, smiling at her. Anna smiled back, sarcastically, and walked towards the table. Tonight, there were a group of men gathered together sitting in table 3. They looked to be celebrating something, and excited to start the night off right in Sin City.
Although Anna loved to have fun, she had learned that if you show too much emotion when bussing a table, that the men would never stop trying to get into your pants. If she had learned one thing about men in Vegas, it was that they had no morals and they just all around had no cares. They were in Vegas for God’s sake, nothing was out of bounds. When she came upon this table, she smiled curtly at the group and began to take their orders. Once she finished with them, she scanned the room, looking to see if anyone else needed service.
Her eyes landed on a man, sitting on a barstool, awaiting someone to take his order. She could only see the back of his dark brown hair, slicked back and parted to one side of his head. He wore a business shirt, with the jacket hung over the chair. As she walked closer to him, she noticed more about him. He had a chiseled chin and soft eyes that were intense and filled with knowing. She felt like she had known him all her life, even though she’d only just met him tonight. He drummed the table softly, seeming to occupy himself as time passed on. Anna gathered herself after being floored by such an amazing man, and walked behind the bar to get his order.
When they met eyes, there was a slow smile that crept upon his lips and took residence there. “Why hello there. Aren’t you gorgeous?” He said, smiling at her. He checked her out from head to torso (What he could see from behind the bar), and licked the outline of his lip slowly. His eyes returned to hers, just in time for her to reply.
“May I take your order?” She said, pushing how much she loved his comment to the back of her mind and tried to focus on the fact that he had just checked her out like an animal, without trying to hide it in any way.
“Whiskey, neat?” He said, as if he was asking if she knew how to make it.
Anna rolled her eyes slightly and began preparing the drink. She knew that when most people ordered whiskey, they ordered it on the rocks because they couldn’t stand the taste, or wanted to drink the drink without realizing what they were doing to their bodies, until the next day. But, if a man walked in off the street, wearing a business suit, and order a whiskey, neat, he knew exactly where he wanted to go in life. He most likely was rich and knew what to do with it.
“So, you from around here?” He asked.
“I don’t really chat with my customers.. Enjoy your drink though.” She said, placing it in front of him and walking into the back of their establishment.

Meanwhile, he had examined everything he could about this girl and was making mental notes. She didn’t like to share about her personal life on the job. She kept a stone face while she was working. Her name tag read Anna. She was gorgeous. He sipped his drink and swallowed. Did he want her as a challenge? Was he going to turn his charm all the way up? Who knew, he didn’t want to come on too strong and scare her away, but he also didn’t want to sit around for too long and watch someone else swoop in and steal this goddess. He had seen her go into the back room, and he heard a golden ray of sunshine, in the form of a laugh. His senses were heightened as he looked around and noticed that all the men had heard the laugh too. He became a tiny bit protective, because he was almost positive that that laugh came from the illustrious woman with the stone face. He didn’t want anyone else to find out her secrets, or what made her tick, because he wanted to be the only one to enter that place.
