"A walk in the park she said," I said.
"Just a small walk and back home she said." I said annoyedly.
"What did ya say Mia?" Asked my mother.
"Nothing Ma." I sad sadly.
"That's what I thought." She continued to walk in front of me while I trailed behind her.

Sometimes I just wanna tell Theresa to shut up sometimes but if I did, I know she would slap the living soul out of me. I loved my mother but she was always strict. She made sure her rules were clear and enforced. She would never miss a beat with me. As a teenager, that's kind of annoying. Knowing that your mother, of all people, knows everything. And when I say everything, I mean everything. Nothing gets passed Theresa. My school work, grades, text messages, phone calls, boyfriends, ex boyfriends, crushes, everything. And it's not like I tell her these things, she just knows. I don't understand it but I guess it's a mother thing. I know she does it out of love but sometimes her love is a little too personal.

"Come on baby. Keep up." Theresa said.
"Keep up where? I don't even know where we are going." I said.
"And you don't need to know, just keep up."
"Do you know where we are going." I asked.
"Yep." Her mother replied?
"Where?" Mia asked with a questioned look on her face.
"Ummm..somewhere." Theresa replied.
"You don't know where we are going?!" I exclaimed.
"No. Okay. Happy now!" Theresa shouted.
"So we are just walking out here for no reason?
"No. I just wanted to spend time with my daughter! Is that a problem?" She asked.
"No, but you could have just said that." I exclaimed putting my hands in frustration.
"Well, if I had asked, I didn't think you would want to." Mia's mother lowered her voice.
"Ma, you know I will spend time with you when you want, right?" I asked.
"Yea, but you are growing up so fast and I want more time with you, is all. You're 17 now and you will be going off to college soon and I don't want you to leave so soon." A frown came upon her face.
She had stopped walking and I went to hug her.
In her arms, "I'll always spend time with you Ma. You're still stuck with me for a few more months. I'm not going anywhere no time soon."

She smiled and hugged me tight. We started back walking. She told me she wanted to sit down, so she went to sit on the bench. I wanted went to go sit on the playground swing set not to far from the trail we were walking on. It was a fairly clean and neat park. Had all the things a usual park would have. A clear and sunny day. I sat down on the swings and swang with the breeze. I closed my eyes and started to swing as high as I could. No kids were on the swings so I didn't feel embarrassed from it. I let the wind fly behind me and in front of me just relaxing my mind. Relaxing wasn't really much of an option for me. Not with senior year ending real soon. It was so much to be done and taken care of, I never really get the chance relax and chill. With graduation coming up, college applications due, and focusing on my grades, it's a lot. Not including my work I do at home and the small jobs I have to help pay for college. Relaxing and settling down is not in the mix for me. I slowly came to a stop on the swings, stopped kicking my feet and got off to go back to my mother. Walking back, I could see her in the distant taking to a man that was sitting on the bench next to her. I didn't want to bother her so I turned back around and headed back to the playground. When I turned around, I ran into someone. We hit heads and both went bent back in pain.

"I'm so sorry, I wasn't looki..." I started to say.
"Oh my bad, I'm sorry, I didn't..." the boy rumbled in his words.
We had both been looking at each other, as we both stopped talking. And then, that's all we did for about two seconds which felt like centuries. We broke out of our daze and he started to speak.
"I'm sorry. I didn't see you." He said smiling at me.
"Oh no. It's my fault, I wasn't looking." I replied.
"It's okay. I hope I didn't hurt your head."
"Nope, I'm good."
"Good. Wouldn't want to mess up that beautiful face."
I blushed a little.
"Wouldn't want to mess up yours either." I said out of nowhere.
'Wouldn't want to mess up yours either.' Come on Mia you could do better than that. I said to myself.
"I'm Harrison." He went to shake my hand.
"Mia." I replied and shook his hand.
"Nice to meet you Mia."
"Nice to meet you too, Harrison."
Before we could say anything more, my mother called me over to her.
I looked over to her, seeing her gesture for me to come on, I turned to Harrison.
"I have to go."
"Oh ok." He said.
"I hope to see you again Mia."
"Same." I replied with a smile and walked away.
I ran to catch up with my ma.
"Hey sweetheart. Who was that?" She asked.
"Oh. I just met him." I replied.
"Who were you talking to?" I asked.
"Oh nobody important." She replied.
"Didn't look like he wasn't important." I said with a smirk on my face.
She pushed my shoulder and chuckled.
"Stop playing girl."

I would always play about my mother having a boyfriend. Ever since my father, things have been a little rocky in her relationship life, so I try to make it fun for her. She doesn't seem to take it seriously and if she doesn't, I don't.

"He was cute though." She said laughing really hard.
I laughed with her. I loved that she was smiling like that. Hopefully she did find some happiness in that conversation with the stranger. But I wasn't much focus on my mother's stranger. I was more focused on mine.
