Chapter 2: A stroll through the park

My eyes scanned the small kitchen furiously.

"Where are you..." I mutterd quietly to myself.

"Ah HA!" I shouted, scooping up the keys and lacing my black converse.

"Hey Uncle Paul! I'm going for a walk!!!" I patentily waited his answer.

"Okay, dont be out too late!"

He shouts back.

I smile and practically fly out the door and down the street.

The afternoon air was warm and inviting, as if it held new beggingings.

I turned a few corners until I was really really in the city.

Luckily for me, I had spent a good three hours or so memorizing a map of this place, so getting lost wouldnt be a problem.

I plugged some earphones into my ear and switched on my phone.

Scrolling through the variety of songs, I settled on "Walking on Sunshine" by Katrina and The waves.

Yeah, I know, old, but still a great song.

People at my old school often teased me about my old taste in music.

But I didnt care, as long as I was happy, then they could think whatever they wanted.

The up-beat song made me place a little bounce in my step as I carried on through the crowded street.

People gave me funny looks or sideways glances, I took note, but didnt let it bother me.

NYC was exciting.

There were new shops and resturaunts around every corner, endless buildings, smells, and faces.

Although I was new, I figured I would get used to it.

A green blurr from the grey jungle of concrete caught my attention.

A park, perfect!

Although I didnt particulalry enjoy the country life, I still missed it.

Feeling the need to be surrounded by trees and greenery, I pressed on towards the park.

After a few crosswalks and turns, I reached the serene lushness of the grass.

I removed my headphones, wanting a little peace, and began to stroll down the long paved roads.

My overcoat's hood hung limply over my eyes and most of my face.

Same as it ever did when I rarely went to the surface.

I had returned my book and was going home empty handed.

Not even a new book could cure my boredom.

The sun was setting off in the east, small streaks of its last light string across the sky.

My brothers and I would be setting out for patrol in a few hours.

"No you're cuter!" Sombody giggled loudly from a bench.

I turned my head in the sounds direction only to be met by April and Caesey cuddling up to eachother. I groaned slighlty and threw up a little mouth, feeling a ball of anger knot itself deep inside me. I averted my eyes and stomped off in a complete different direction.

I couldnt stand them somtimes.

I continued to stomp, not caring were my feet took me.

Left, right, left, right.

I just wanted to be away from them and their little love fest.

Bleh.

Only 5 minuted past the whole scene, I found mself lost in the park.

Not many people were around since it was nearly 6:00 and starting to get dark.

Why not take a stroll?

The warm summer air seemed comforting and breezy.

A few crickets began to chirp as the sun started to leave the sky till morning.

Although I was alone, I kept my hood up and hands in my pockets, because you never really know with this city.

Deciding to head back, I began to trod unhappily back to the lair.

Left, right, left, right.

I was almost at the gate when a choking-gagging type sound rung through the vacant park.

Well, what I thought was vacant.

The sound made me spin on my heels and I desperatly attempted to pinpoint the noise.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Oh no! Not now!
Stupid asthma!
Everytime I want a little peace...
No, it was wrong to blame this on the asthma, I was the dumb one who forgot her inhaler.
I was about to leave the park when it happend, the tightening in my chest, heaving of my lungs.
My whole body felt electic and cold, in a horrible way.
This is it.
I though.
I'm all alone, and gonna die here my first day.
I felt a tear slip down my cheek as I gasped louder, hoping, praying anyone would hear.
In the last seconds of consisnous I had left, my eyes picked up a hooded figure, running to me.
