Chapter Thirteen

My idea of a first date is situated on this fancy restaurant clad with candlelit dinner with champagne on the other side. But I did not know that Rigid had a better idea than me. Alas sais kanina ng nabigla ako dahil dumiretso si Rigid sa bahay. He said he wanted to formally ask mom for a dinner date just between us two. Pagdating namin sa bahay kanina wala pa naman si mommy. She's still not done with her spa session together with her amigas. Binigay ko na lamang ang number ni mommy kay Rigid so he'll just send her a message or something. Gusto niya kasing magpaalam.

When mom finally texted him it's okay, we immediately left, At first, I didn't ask him where he's heading but when it's nearing 7pm and we're away from the city, I got curious.

"It's a surprise." He said that while looking closely on the secluded road. May mga street lights naman but it's really dark.

Kumapit ako sa seatbelt. I'm not really sure about Rigids plan now. Seriously, where are we going?

"We're here." He said as he safely parked his car just a space away from the empty road. Lumabas siya ng sasakyan at pinagbuksan ako. Umihip ang malakas na hangin at agad kong nalaman na malapit kami sa dagat. Tinignan ko si Rigid na ngayon ay may kinukuha sa backseat.

"I know this is corny." He laughed. Ngumiti naman ako ng nakita ang bitbit niyang picnic basket. Umakyat siya sa kanyang Chevy Silverado at sa likuran may nilatag siyang stripes na cloth. He held my hands as he helped me lift myself. Umupo ako sa kabilang side, katabi niya. He gave me his black slim fit blazer suit to cover my legs.

Tumatawa ako sa kanya habang abala siya sa pagkuha ng nasa loob ng basket.

He eyed me. "What's so funny?"

I helped him with the McDo take outs and some fruits.

"You're so spontaneous." I exclaimed. Pinagpag ko ang suit niyang natapunan ng kaunting tubig.

He stifle a chuckle. "Don't you like it?" He asked me after settling everything. Nilagay niya sa gitna ang phone niya at binuksan ang kanyang candle light app.

"It's perfect." I stared at him for a long time. Tumingala ako sa langit at nakita ang maaliwalas na gabi. The night sky is at its best. Stars are everywhere forming different constellations. I traced the lights of the moon as its shadow reflect on the sea surface. Tanging ang dagat, hangin at katahimikan ang nag iingay sa gabi.

I pointed at the moon and stared at Rigid. "That's Luna." I said, obviously. He followed my hand and gently nodded.

"It's really beautiful." I placed my hands on my face and I stared at the moon until it relaxed me. Pumikit ako at dinamdam ang hangin. At the back of my mind, I already know that Rigid is staring. I waited until we were enveloped by a Coldplay song Rigid played as the background.

"It fits the moment." He said and handed me the burger and fries. We were basically eating dinner under the solemn night with Chris Martin serenading us.

"Thank you. This is the perfect dinner I've had." I told him.

"Is this the first time?" He asked, referring to this kind of set-up. I nodded.

Binuksan niya ang coke in a can at binigay sa akin.

"I never did this with my friends or with my family, Sa'yo palang." I replied.

"I didn't know you had this side. Romantic ka pala." I laughed because of what I said. He shrugged.

"I did this with my mom before she passed away. She had cancer." I instantly felt sorry but I feel like I should not say it vocally.
