Glitter & Crimson

Preface

The silence hung between us, it was heavy and i was trying to gauge the energy in the air. I still had my shoes on when i unlocked the front door, everyone frozen when he got up from the couch to cross the small distance to stand in front of me.

I could hear Rain and Macy suck in deep breaths - waiting. Jake had that impassive face he always had, sitting beside them on the couch.

"What- um, why are you guys here?" I asked, trying to nonchalance casuality when really my heart was beating wildly in my chest i could practically hear it.

I didn't dare look at him in the eyes.

"Movie night" Alex answered, still looking at me.

I nodded. "Oh okay, let me just.... shower first" i said, successfully peeling off my boots and sidestepping him. I hurried towards my room and sucked in a deep breath.

God, he wasn't supposed to be here. Why was he here?

I was still trying to process the situation when someone knocked on my door. I almost jumped but opened it, peeking through the side only to see Rain raising her eyebrows at me.

Oh thank god. She let herself in and i tried to keep my voice as low as possible as she made herself comfortable on my bed.

"Do they know where i was?" I asked hurriedly.

"Yup, we told them"

I groaned, shedding off my jacket and pacing around my room.

"You did nothing wrong... you know that right?" Rain asked slowly.

I nodded and then shook my head vehemently.

"If i didn't why do i feel so guilty?" I sighed.

"You guys have literally been skirting around esch other for almost a year, this was good. How was your date? Tell me about it"

"After... we need to get out to them to watch the movie & make sure macy hasnt killed them with sarcasm" i mumbled the last part and Rain agreed, letting herself out.

I walked in our small living room with wet hair and an oversized tshirt with sweats. Macy, Rain & Jake conquered the couch and i rolled my eyes as i took a seat on the floor, next to Alex, he gave me the pillow he was holding and I turned towards him with a smile. His lips quirked in response but it didnt reach his eyes and i held my breath.

"So what's on for tonight?" I asked trying to lighten the mood.

"We were thinking something pyscho.. like SPLIT" Macy piped up, searching the movie on Netflix.

I nodded my approval and hugged the pillow to my chest.

"Shit. I left my phone in the room" i sighed, it would've been a great distraction for the creepy parts.

"Want me to go get it?" Alex asked, already getting up before i said can give my reply.
Jake held back a snort and i glared at him.

I heard my phone ring from the room and I got to my feet immediately. Shit. He couldn't have called now can he? Not just after dropping me off at home...

Alex walked back into the living room with my ringing phone and an icy look in his eyes.

My heart thundered nervously as he gave me my phone and moved to sit back in his seat.

I got up from mine, waving my hand at the television. "You guys can start first" before hurrying towards my room.

"Hey" i answered the phone.

"Hey! What are you up to?"

"Since you dropped me off about half an hour ago? Um, i showered and was about to watch a movie with my friends."

He laughed at the first part and if he was in front of me, he probably would have seemed a little flustered. It amazed me how he could be flustered by me. ME!

"Oh am i disturbing? I'm sorry! I can call you after the movie?" He asked.

"Um yeahh sure, after the movie"

"Have fun then!" He said before hanging up.

I looked down at my phone and heaved a sigh.

"He just dropped you off and he's calling you? He must like you a lot"

I jumped at the voice turned around to see Alex leaning at my room door.

I shrugged. "He's probably bored"

He raised his eyebrows. "That's what you said about me..."

"You were bored" i pointed out, daring me to call me bluff.

"But i liked talking to you" he continued after a while. I looked at him with wide eyes.

I sighed and sat down at the edge of my bed.

"Are we gonna talk about this?" I asked seriously. He seemed to be the one shocked now as he came closer.

"About..."

I gestured between the two of us.

"What do we have to-"

"Alex, you know what" i groaned.

He closed the door behind him and i looked up at him with almost pleading eyes.

"Tell me"

He looked at me pleadingly too. The silent plea of "please don't make me say it" hung heavy in the silence.
