Amber could feel the chilly air nipping at her face as she skated downtown. Her unruly hair blew behind her and she breathed heavily. She knew how mad her mom would be at her when she got home. Amber considered running away. "What the hell am I thinking?" she said to herself,"I have hardly any money. Maybe I could start saving up." But Amber thought that sounded like too much work.

The familiar chime of the vinyl emporium door greeted Amber as she waved to Lassie the cashier. They had gone to school together like almost everyone in this town. They weren't necessarily friends, but more of acquaintances.
Amber walked past the R and S section and stopped at the T's. She shuffled through the 1985 releases, and found the Songs from the Big Chair record. She pulled the crumpled bills from her pocket to see if she could get another record. She had two five dollar bills and a ten, new records cost $9 and used ones cost $5. So she walked over to the used records section and browsed for a bit, before settling on Born in the U.S.A. by Bruce Springsteen.
"Hey," Lassie sighed putting her magazine down.
"Hey," Amber muttered sliding the records onto the counter.
"That'll be $14." Lassie said as Amber handed her $20. Lassie gave Amber her change and put the records into a plastic bag.
"Thanks," Amber said taking the bag and walking towards the door. Lassie watched her leave and then returned to her magazine. Amber held the bag tightly in her hand as she skated back home.
