Kouvr smiles as she braids Charli's hair. The five-year-old was excited it was her very first day of school. She was going to be a big kid! Just like everyone else in her family. While Charli was going to be going to Kindergarten, her oldest brother Ondreaz would be going into his third year at the Junior High, so he left the house already. Charli had given him a big hug before he left unused to being able to go with him to school in the morning. Ondreaz is the oldest in the big family that is the D'Amelio's being 13 years old. The oldest by two years. This year Connor, Thomas, and Larry were all going to the Junior High with him. They were going into fifth grade.

"Are you excited, Charli?" Kouvr asks picking up the girl sitting between her legs on the floor. Avani takes Charli's place on the floor in front of Kouvr. Nearly every morning went like this. Mia and Kouvr helping the younger girls put their hair in braids. Addison would normally grab Charli, Dixie and Avani's clothes. If she was lucky sometimes, like today, Addison could also choose an outfit for Kouvr and Mia. Addison never let the opportunity pass to get all the girls matching.

"Yeah! It's going to be so much fun!" Charli cheers laying on the bed careful not to mess up the perfectly crafted braids in her hair that were topped off with one of Addison's cloth headbands. Mia laughed lightly at the youngest in the house. The peaceful quiet in the room was soon broken when Patty ran into the room with a nerf gun. He quickly hid behind Charli as she screamed in dismay. "Stop it! Patty, you're going to mess up my braids!"

"Patty, get over here! Stop hiding behind Charls like a baby," Ryland screams running into the room with Chase and Nick right behind him. The two younger boys laughing hysterically at the situation.

"Get out! This isn't your room!" Mia yells, for some reason the boys would hide in their room every time someone got in trouble and it was so annoying. Mia finishes off the braid in Dixie's hair quickly deeming it acceptable, as she grabs a pillow. While Mia attacks Patty with the pillow Dixie grabs the nerf gun and shoots Patty and Ryland with the remaining two bullets. Both of the boys turn to her and she screams as she runs away. Consequently, she runs right into her dad as she runs away from the boys she looks at as brothers.

"Dad! Save me!" Dixie yells dramatically as she jumps into his arms.

"What did you do, Dixie?" Marc asks with a laugh and smile on his face. He can't think of anything better than what he has in life right now. He and his wife have taken in all of these kids, excluding Charli and Dixie, from horrible pasts in different foster homes and have given them each a good life in this group home.

"She shot me and Ryland with our nerf guns!" Patty complains. Marc simply shakes his head with a laugh as he hears Heidi shout from the living room that they better be ready in the next ten minutes if they don't want to miss their bus.

Everything is a blur. One moment, Heidi and Marc are climbing into the car with the promise of Ice Cream. The next the police are showing up on their doorstep.

"Residence of the D'Amelio's?" The first officer asks, looking down at Alex who had been the first to the door. Alex's smile quickly dropped from his face and his little camera Marc and Heidi had bought him from his hands. The last time the police had shown up on his doorstep was because his brother Grant had been brought to the hospital by the neighbor after they had found the boy bleeding out. Later that night Alex had been taken away from his abusive home and had been bouncing around the system till five months ago when he landed in this home.
