It took three whole hours to find my apartment. Me stopping to find a coffee shop and get a matcha frappuccino had nothing to do with it. At all.
When I finally arrived, the door was locked. I didn't think about that. I checked my pockets, and sure enough, a small I.D. was in my pocket. It had a current picture of me, wearing a black hoodie with my mid-length purple and light blue hair. I'd never had my photo taken with my current hairstyle, so I have no idea how the I.D. had that picture, but I didn't think much of it. I slid the I.D. into the card reader. Sure enough, it opened up.
I wasn't expecting anyone to be here, but my roommate actually was. And it was a girl. I have no idea why I didn't expect this, probably since the dorms at my old school, whose classes I'd be taking online now, were separated into boy dorms and girl dorms. She had short, spiky hair, dark black with red highlights. She was darker skinned, and had amber eyes. She was wearing round rimmed glasses, a white tank top, and black jeans. She was leaning back in an office chair, feet up on the desk, playing a video game on a large flat screen TV. She noticed I'd entered the room and finished up her game. She set the controller on the desk and spun around in her chair.
"Hey," she said, "I suppose you are my new roommate, huh? My name's Hakone, whats yours?" I stood there for a second, like an idiot. "My name's Artemis. Artemis Izuku," I replied. She smiled. "Nice to meet you, Artemis! Nice hair!" Hakone exclaimed. She pointed towards the other side of the room. "That's your half of the room. All your stuff's over there," she said, picking up her controller again.
"Thanks," I said, heading over to my half of the room. It wasn't until then that I noticed how large the room was. Just my side was about four times as large as the dorm I shared with three others back at school. It was also the side with the window that looked out upon the underground town that Subaru had built. In the middle of the two halves of the room was a doorway that led into a small kitchen on the right and a bathroom on the left. Hakone's half was pretty messy, but my half was reasonably clean, just a bunch of suitcases that held my belongings. My bed was above a desk, which had a very nice laptop on it with state of the art technology. It seems that someone knows my preferences. There was a small foldable door that opened into a reasonably sized closet. I figured out which suitcases held my clothing. For some reason, there were a lot more clothes than I remembered having.
After I organized my clothes into my closet, I put my shoes in the small spaces below the hangers. At the far wall, there was a panel with a single button on it. I pressed the button, and the panel came out of the wall, towards me. I step aside to see four empty compartments, a sticky note on the front of the extra drawer. It said, "When you design a costume or outfit you want for training and battle, submit it to me and it will be made. Make sure to write notes for special additions you want for the outfit. Thanks, Subaru."
I pressed the button and the drawer sunk back into the wall. Is that what the electric guy that attacked me was wearing? I thought. I walked out of the closet and closed the door. I was half expecting a closet joke to come my way like they did back at school, but Hakone didn't say anything. She was putting a pair of rainbow colored high top basketball shoes on, very similar to the black and purple ones I had on currently. She noticed me and stood. "I'm meeting up with some friends for dinner, wanna come? Hakone asked. I stared at her in bewilderment. "You... Want me... To come eat with you and your friends?" I asked, shocked. She cocked her head confused. "Yeah, is that fine?" she asked slowly. I nodded furiously, scratching the back of my head. "Yeah, of course! I've just never actually had any friends other than my previous teacher, so..." I said awkwardly. Hakone just smiled. "Well, then, come on! We're gonna be late!" she said excitedly. She ran out the door. I smiled softly and followed.
I followed her into one of the staircases. To my surprise, it was just a tunnel, and at the end was another staircase. We ran through the tunnel and up the stairs, and then slowed to a walk. I looked all around me. It was like a gigantic mall. Businesses of all kinds, from grocery stores to fast food restaurants to martial arts dojos to arts and crafts stores. We rode up an escalator to the third floor of the mall and there was a food court, serving foods from all around the world. Hakone waved, and a small group of three people waved back. She nudged me and ran towards them. I just jogged, still tired from the fight with the electric guy.
