"I should have told you earlier," Regina apologized after it had been quiet in the car for quite some time.
Emma had no clue as to what she could respond and just gazed at the woman as though she'd just seen a ghost.
"I knew I'd failed in breaking down your walls. I just never realized how much," the blonde said softly after being silent for quite some time.
This actually hurt Regina. It hurt Regina to see Emma so broken. Their relationship had meant more to Regina than Emma knew. More than Emma would ever understand.
Now, Regina needed any sort of physical contact with Emma. She wanted to hug the woman. The woman that had done more for her than she knew. The woman that had saved her from losing everything entirely. The woman of her dreams.
As she found it inappropriate to hug Emma so suddenly, she put her hand on Emma's lap.
"You knew me better than anyone. You are the only one who really understood me and I can never thank you enough for everything that you've done for me in the past and everything that you're still doing for me."
Emma blinked a few times and then looked away. She felt all kinds of emotions. Feelings she had held for the woman in the past came flooding back, but with that also anger and sadness.
The amount of how much she liked Regina variated constantly. At first, Regina had been a stone cold bitch to whom she was not attracted. Then, the brunette had opened up and Emma thought she was screwed, but now she didn't know it anymore.
She was so in love with the woman, yet at the same time so incredibly angry. And the worst part is, is that it didn't even matter how she felt, because she knew Regina didn't like her that way.
Her mind was one blur and she was in a big conflict with herself.
"We should go home. There's no point in staying here any longer," Emma said emotionless, not replying to Regina's confession after all.
Regina sighed as Emma opened her car door. She wondered whether there was any way that she could convince Emma that the blonde did mean a lot to her.
"Emma, wait," Regina demanded as the blonde slammed her car door closed.
"What?" Emma snapped and she hated the guilt that was evident on Regina's face. Regina hadn't planned anything to say yet. "I just... I need to organize and contemplate all the information I've received over the past days. It's a lot, you know?"
This tiny bit of information, even though it didn't add a lot to the story, was just too much for Emma. The thoughts, memories and feelings were just too much.
Regina hurried to Emma and grabbed her hand to prevent her from walking any further. "You have all the rights to be so angry with me. I deserve it, really. But I want you to know that you've always been a big part of my life. You're the reason I never dated anyone in the past eight years. You're the reason that I have never even slept with someone these years, because no one seemed good enough after what I had with you," Regina confessed.
Even though Regina practically told Emma she loved her, but just in different words, Emma still didn't believe that that was really what was going on. The blonde knew that, even though Regina wasn't aware of it, this was all part of Cora's manipulation.
"Can I go to Granny's alone? I'd kill for a hot cocoa with cinnamon right now and if memory serves, they're the best there." Emma needed some time alone.
Regina looked slightly rejected, but she nodded. "Sure. Let me know when you get home, so that I can open the door and.." she didn't want to finish the sentence.
