A FEW YEARS LATER:
To be honest with myself, I had done pretty good in life. I had accomplishd my goal of becomng a singer, but I wasn't a big name yet. I had done some opening acts for people and stuff but nothing big. I had a meeting later today to discuss a "major carrer opportunity" that my manager had organised. For the past few years, I had been working at a local Starbucks and making a good amount of money. I had my whole life ahead of me and so far, it was looking good. America was great! It didn't remind me of my past at all, it only gave me new opportunities. I glanced at my phone to check the time and saw it was 2:30 in the afternoon.
"Hey Shelby!" I yelled into the back of the store as I shoved my phone back in my pants pocket.
"Yeah?" She yelled back and walked out to the front.
"Um, I have a meeting later on today at 3:00. Can I take a break?" I asked.
"Sure." She shrugged and walked over to the 'open' sign and switched it to 'closed'. "I'm taking one too. I have to visit my grandparents tonight, but promise when you are done with that meeting you'll come back here and work the night shift for a bit?" She asked.
"Of course!" I smiled.
"Thanks, babe. I don't know what I'd do with out you." She hugged me and I smiled. Shelby was like a sister to me. She had shiny strawberry blonde hair that was pin straight, green eyes and she was super skiny. We looked a like except for our hair and eyes. My hair was a wavy dirty blonde that was really blonde at the bottom but dark blonde at the top. My eyes were a blue/green color, and I was short for my age, but I was skinny too.
"Thanks Shelbs!" I smiled and walked out of the shop. I hopped into my car and sped to my managers office.
2:59. One minute early! "Nailed ittt!" I sang to myself. I walked to the front desk and asked to be pointed towards meeting room 13. The woman simply pointed down the hall. I sighed and blew a piece of hair out of my eyes. 11..12..13! 13! I knocked on the door then opened it.
"Ah, Lexi! Hello dear! This is Jackson, the manager of the artist I want you to be opening act for." John, my manager smiled at me.
"Uh, cool." I took a seat closest to John. "What do I need to know before I agree to anything?"
"Well, the artist or should I say artists are huge! They're a world wide phenomenon! Plus you'll be on their entire U.S. tour. So you'll perform at each one of their venues and spend time with them. Since they have a great fanbase, it'll be a good opportunity to get you recognized!" John smiled happily at me.
"So what do you say miss Lexi?" Jackson asked me.
"I say..." I looked at them both and they both smiled hopefully. "Yes. I'll do it."
"Great! Now John and I have some things to discuss. The artist you'll be opening for is right outside! I heard you had a job at Starbucks? How about you take them there so you can get to know them. Then I'll pick them up and everyone will be happy!" Jackson suggested.
"Sure! I'd love to!" I smiled as John ushered me out the door. "Thank you." I smiled at him as he shut the door. I walked back to the entrance and found four boys tackling eachother on the floor with one yelling at them to stop. I didn't recognize them at first but then it hit me. One Direction is who I'm opening for. "Um, hey there." I said awkwardly as I stood there with my car keys and bag in my left hand.
"Oh, hello!" Liam rushed towards me to shake my hand. "I'm Liam Payne. Nice to meet you."
"Hi, I'm Alexandra Thompson, but you can call me Lexi." I shake his hand. By now the other four boys had stopped fighting and were coming up to meet me.
