The Disaster

No computer could have ever sensed it. No camera recorded it. It was too fast. The super comet that sped from space was one-of-a-kind and huge. Twice the size of Texas and with the sheer mass, the fatal fireball raced towards Earth. One second it was rushing through space, the next, it was blasting the Eastern half of the United States away with such force that the land became irreparably damaged, taking life within a 500-mile radius with it. No words could describe this destruction, thus earning it the title "It." Sole survivors fled to the Western half of the U.S., among them, Jameswell Clark, the grandfather of two one-day famous young children.

The overflow of people led to a general discomfort throughout the whole U.S., what with the closer-than-wanted quarters among everyone. These rumblings grew into complaints, and with no leader, the whole nation fell into chaos. The southern area banded together, already near violence, and attacked refugees to the east. This eastern area had no choice but to fight back, or be destroyed. Soon enough, the other states became involved, and threw what was once the U.S. into a mess of fighting, war, and no peace. This period lasted for forty-two years, yet somehow the people, some areas, and their battles survived.

Finally, somebody stepped out feom the scuffling and suggested a peace treaty. With another eight years of planning and debating, The Compass Treaty was drawn up.

The treaty stated that the former United States of America ceased to exist after excercising 1,074 years of power. The remaing area was transformed into The Compass, a country of four territories: North Territory, where the capital would be held because of the area's resistance to fight in the war, and the East, West, and South Territories, named for the cardinal directions the areas represented.

This treaty also held the territories' promise to never fight each other, which stood in effect for over 49 years. The country of The Compass then again began the grumblings of a war, this time, about the resources of a vast, well, resource supply, lying directly under the four territories.
